📋 Description

• Lead a team of doctoral-level clinical researchers conducting virtual clinical trials and collaborative research with academic institutions to generate peer-reviewed evidence on metabolic health outcomes.
• Develop and expand Virta’s real-world evidence program by leveraging claims data, clinical datasets, health plan records, and employer databases to demonstrate clinical and economic impact of Virta’s care model.
• Partner with Commercial Marketing, Sales, and Clinical leadership to translate research findings into compelling market narratives, sales enablement tools, and executive communications that position Virta as the evidence-based leader in metabolic health.
• Design and execute a strategic Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement plan, including mapping, prioritization, advisory board development, scientific communications, and long-term relationship management with external scientists and clinicians.
• Represent Virta’s science at national and international conferences, symposia, and client meetings through podium presentations, panel discussions, and one-on-one engagements with stakeholders.
• Serve as a key member of the Virta Medical Group leadership team, contributing scientific insight to clinical care design, coaching protocols, and product development initiatives.
• Inject evidence-based insights across Virta’s operations—from clinical pathways to patient coaching to technology features—to ensure all functions are grounded in rigorous data and outcomes.
• Oversee the end-to-end process of clinical research publication, including drafting, editing, and submitting manuscripts as first or senior author in peer-reviewed journals.
• Ensure all research activities comply with IRB protocols, HIPAA regulations, and institutional review standards for patient data privacy and ethical conduct.
• Build and mentor a high-performing, inclusive research team, fostering technical growth, career advancement, and a culture of collaboration and intellectual curiosity.
• Align Virta’s scientific agenda with key industry events and regulatory landscapes to maximize visibility and influence in the metabolic health space.
• Translate complex health economics (HEOR), epidemiological, and biostatistical findings into accessible narratives for non-scientific audiences including employers, health plans, and commercial partners.
• Work cross-functionally with the Data Science team to identify, access, and analyze external data sources for real-world evidence generation.
• Maintain a strong public presence as a thought leader in metabolic health, shaping how the market understands long-term outcomes, cost savings, and clinical efficacy of digital interventions.
• Drive a culture of evidence-based decision-making across the organization, prioritizing data over dogma and empowering teams with transparent access to research insights.

🎯 Requirements

• Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, MD, PharmD, or equivalent) in health economics, clinical outcomes research, health services research, pharmacoepidemiology, epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or related quantitative health research discipline
• Minimum of five years of people leadership experience building and developing high-performing research teams
• Minimum of two years of direct clinical or research experience working with patients, with experience in metabolic health highly desirable
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing KOL engagement strategies, including advisory boards and scientific communications
• Proven track record of publishing multiple peer-reviewed papers as first or senior author
• Minimum of five years of business experience in a startup or high-growth organization
