Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As an Implementation Tooling Engineer at Tern Limited, you will transform slow, manual, error-prone migration and onboarding processes into reliable, scalable infrastructure that enables the company to onboard far more travel agencies without increasing headcount.
- • You will own and harden partner-network sync infrastructure, consolidate scattered integration logic into shared systems, build data-quality enforcement gates, and ensure pipelines remain fast, idempotent, and safe at scale—directly impacting Tern’s ability to ship value to advisors every week.
- • Tern is a venture-backed software company reshaping the $127B travel agency industry by empowering small business travel advisors with modern technology, helping them run more efficient, professional, and profitable operations while promoting intentional, sustainable travel.
- • You will gain deep ownership of high-leverage infrastructure, see immediate impact as your work goes live for advisors within days, and build compounding value by replacing brittle manual processes with durable, adoptable tooling that improves reliability and throughput over time.
🎯 Requirements
- • Backend and data-pipeline engineering with strong experience in a backend stack and SQL, including real-world experience building data pipelines and background-job systems that run reliably at volume (Tern uses Rails, Sidekiq, dbt, BigQuery)
- • Proven ability to take manual, repetitive processes and replace them with tooling that gets adopted and stays adopted, with demonstrable before-and-after outcomes
- • Experience owning third-party integrations or syncs, understanding drift, idempotency, fan-out, and the challenges of maintaining reliable data flows
- • High agency: ability to execute from a planned backlog without needing every ticket fully specced, surfacing trade-offs instead of over-building
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary, equity, and benefits package
- • Opportunity to be part of a mission-driven team transforming the travel planning space and empowering small business travel advisors
- • Work with a supportive, curious, and creative team that values growth, operational excellence, and psychological safety
- • Chance to influence and shape user success strategy from the ground up with immediate, measurable impact on Tern’s weekly shipping cadence
