📋 Description

• Build and scale a configurable, multi-tenant travel commerce platform that enables global partners (banks, airlines, fintechs) to launch world-class booking experiences with minimal custom engineering.
• Own end-to-end features from backend systems to partner-facing interfaces, primarily focusing on Scala and GCP services, while using AI tooling to navigate the full stack as needed.
• Design scalable architectural patterns and foundational systems that accelerate the launch of new partner experiences and compound intelligence across Hopper’s network as it scales.
• Orchestrate AI agents and automate feedback loops to ship features end-to-end in a fraction of the time traditionally required, without relying on AI for code auto-completion.
• Develop and maintain guardrails and validation mechanisms that ensure AI-assisted development remains productive, reliable, and safe for production systems.
• Collaborate with senior engineers in a low-process, high-trust environment where autonomy and asynchronous decision-making are the norm, driven by clear documentation and specifications.
• Work directly with product managers and business partners to define, refine, and prioritize the product roadmap, contributing technical vision and product thinking to strategic decisions.
• Improve the codebase to enable both human engineers and AI agents to move faster and ship code with confidence, prioritizing customer experience over technical elegance.
• Analyze cardholder behavior to connect users with the right travel offers at the right time, helping partners increase incremental spend and competitiveness.
• Deliver measurable insights to partners on what drives booking behavior and fintech adoption, enabling data-informed business decisions.
• Contribute to a diverse, collaborative team culture by giving and receiving constructive feedback to foster personal and technical growth.
• Maintain deep understanding of LLM strengths and limitations, applying judgment to determine when to trust AI outputs and when to intervene manually.
• Translate complex business requirements into technical solutions that power fintech products like Cancel for Any Reason and Flight Disruption Assistance, which have industry-leading CSAT scores.
• Support the growth of HTS, which represents over 75% of Hopper’s revenue and powers travel commerce for partners including Capital One, Nubank, Air Canada, and Uber.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience designing and maintaining distributed systems in Scala, or a mastery-level willingness to learn it.
• Proven ability to orchestrate AI agents and build feedback loops to automate and accelerate end-to-end feature delivery.
• Strong product thinking anchored in customer experience, not technical elegance for its own sake.
• Experience designing guardrails and validation systems for AI-assisted development to ensure reliability and safety.
• Ability to dive into unfamiliar codebases and deliver results quickly with minimal guidance.
• Capacity to articulate technical decisions, tradeoffs, and reasoning clearly, both in writing and verbally.
