📋 Description
- • The Inpatient Medical Coder 2 role is critical to ensuring accurate reimbursement and data collection for the Ohio State University Medical Center and The James Cancer Hospital by assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS codes to inpatient medical records.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing medical records, selecting appropriate admitting, principal, and secondary diagnoses, sequencing diagnoses and procedures, using encoder software to assign codes, and ensuring accurate MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment for billing, research, and planning.
- • The role operates within the Health System Shared Services department, specifically the MIM CDI and Coding team, which supports the financial and operational integrity of the OSU Health System through precise clinical documentation and coding.
- • The position offers opportunities to develop expertise in inpatient coding standards, maintain professional credentials through continuing education, and contribute to healthcare data quality and compliance in a major academic medical center.
🎯 Requirements
- • Completion of a CAHIIM-approved coding certificate or HIMT program or equivalent education and experience
- • Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by AHIMA, or commitment to obtain one within six months if hired via the Coding Apprenticeship Program
- • Minimum of one year of relevant inpatient coding experience
