- • The Inpatient Medical Coder 3 role at Ohio State University’s Health System Shared Services is responsible for assigning accurate diagnosis and procedural codes to inpatient and outpatient medical records to support reimbursement, data collection, and compliance across the OSU Health System.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing electronic medical records in IHIS, selecting appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes using Computer Assisted Coding/Encoder software, sequencing diagnoses and procedures, abstracting key patient data (admission source, disposition, attending physicians), and ensuring compliance with coding edits for MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment.
- • The role operates within the Health System’s Shared Services department, specifically the MIM CDI and Coding team, which upholds the university’s values of excellence, integrity, collaboration, diversity, and innovation while adhering to AHIMA ethical standards and departmental billing and coding policies.
- • This position offers the opportunity to develop advanced expertise in complex inpatient and outpatient coding, contribute to accurate hospital reimbursement, maintain high productivity and quality standards, and grow as a senior coding specialist within a leading academic health system.
🎯 Requirements
- • Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management
- • Credentialed as RHIT, RHIA, or CCS by AHIMA
- • Minimum 2 years of relevant medical coding experience (4–6 years preferred)
