📋 Description
- • The Intern - Data Analytics role at Government Employees Health Association, Inc. (G.E.H.A) offers a structured summer internship designed to build foundational skills in data analytics within a mission-driven nonprofit serving over two million federal employees, retirees, and their families. This position is critical to supporting G.E.H.A’s goal of empowering health and wellness through data-driven decision making, providing interns with hands-on experience in a real-world healthcare analytics environment while contributing to projects that improve member outcomes and organizational efficiency.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include performing assigned data analysis and technical design under direct supervision, participating in validating data loads by comparing source and target systems, and using data engineering tools to conduct data quality checks for accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Interns will partner with cloud data engineers and analytics teams to prepare datasets for analytical dashboards, assist in troubleshooting data discrepancies reported by data consumers, and gain understanding of enterprise data management tasks to support a cloud-centric platform. Additional duties involve participating in scrum meetings, daily standups, and design review sessions with the Data & Analytics (D&A) team, communicating findings, blockers, progress, and opportunities for process improvement, and shadowing senior team members to understand enterprise data architecture.
- • The Data & Analytics division at G.E.H.A serves as the central hub for data management and analytics, integrating data from various systems to enable insights for individuals and applications. The team collaborates with business data analysts, data scientists, analytics engineers, managers, and stakeholders to support reporting and data-driven decision making across the organization. G.E.H.A is a nonprofit committed to diversity, inclusion, and innovation, headquartered in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, with a mission to empower federal workers to be healthy and well through personalized, efficient healthcare benefits.
- • Through this internship, the individual will develop core analytical skills, enhance data visualization techniques, improve healthcare data literacy, and gain exposure to real-world projects that contribute to G.E.H.A’s analytic maturity. The rotational structure across analytics teams provides insight into how different groups contribute to the end-to-end analytics process, from gathering business requirements to creating cleaned datasets and performing statistical analysis. This experience builds a strong foundation for future careers in data analytics, particularly within healthcare or mission-driven organizations.
