Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead the investment accounting function for a global risk-services leader that has re-defined customer retention for 30+ years. You will own the accuracy, timeliness, and strategic insight of every dollar we invest on behalf of policyholders and shareholders, ensuring GAAP and statutory compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- • Direct a high-performing team of accountants and analysts who handle daily transaction processing, month-end close, fair-value adjustments, OTTI testing, derivative valuations, and complex fixed-maturity, equity, and alternative-investment schedules. Your coaching will turn technical accountants into future finance leaders.
- • Design and continuously refine investment accounting policies, procedures, and internal-control matrices that satisfy both external auditors (Big 4) and state insurance examiners. You will be the go-to subject-matter expert when new FASB, NAIC, or SEC guidance is released, translating technical rules into practical workflows.
- • Partner with Portfolio Management, Treasury, Tax, and Actuarial to forecast cash flows, optimize asset-liability matching, and support strategic initiatives such as reinsurance collateral, captives, and ESG mandates. Your analyses will directly influence capital allocation decisions that exceed $5 billion in invested assets.
- • Spearhead system enhancements and automation projects—whether implementing a new sub-ledger, integrating with BlackRock Aladdin, or deploying RPA bots for repetitive reconciliations. You will write business requirements, manage UAT, and train end-users to unlock faster closes and sharper analytics.
- • Own the preparation and review of statutory Schedule D, BA, and DA filings, GAAP footnotes (ASC 320, 321, 815, 820), and supplemental investment exhibits for rating agencies. Your commentary will clarify investment strategy, risk concentrations, and unrealized gains/losses for senior leadership and the Board.
- • Build and maintain relationships with external custodians, investment managers, pricing vendors, and regulatory bodies to ensure data integrity, resolve exceptions, and anticipate market-driven changes (e.g., LIBOR transition, CLO 2.0 structures).
- • Drive continuous process improvement by benchmarking against insurance industry best practices, leveraging Lean/Six Sigma tools, and embedding KPIs such as close-cycle time, reconciliation aging, and SOX deficiency rates. Expect to present quarterly dashboards to the CFO and Investment Committee.
- • Mentor emerging talent through Applied Underwriters’ formal mentorship program, delivering paid training, cross-functional rotations, and individualized development plans that align with the company’s succession pipeline.
- • Champion a culture of compliance, ethics, and intellectual curiosity. You will lead quarterly investment-accounting town-halls, share technical updates, and promote diversity of thought across Omaha and Tampa offices.
