Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Join GDIT as an IT Python & AI Programming Developer and become the driving force behind next-generation data science and automation solutions for the United States Postal Service (USPS). Aligned to the USPS Office of Chief Information Officer (CIO) Architecture, Strategy & Innovation (CASI) group, you will sit at the epicenter of the Technology & Infrastructure Innovation Program, translating raw data into mission-critical insights that keep one of America’s largest civilian agencies running smarter, faster, and more securely.
- • Architect, build, and deploy production-grade Python applications and scripts that automate IT operations, orchestrate complex data workflows, and surface actionable intelligence to stakeholders ranging from network engineers to C-suite executives. Your code will run in cloud-native environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and will be containerized with Docker and orchestrated via Kubernetes to ensure scalability, resilience, and continuous delivery.
- • Own the full data lifecycle: ingest multi-terabyte data sets from disparate USPS sources, cleanse and transform them using Pandas, NumPy, and PySpark, engineer high-impact features, and feed clean data into machine-learning pipelines. You will design and tune ML models that predict infrastructure failures, optimize delivery routes, and detect anomalous cyber behavior—always with an eye on ethical AI, bias mitigation, and data privacy.
- • Rapidly prototype and demonstrate proof-of-concepts (PoCs) that showcase emerging AI/ML capabilities. You will independently scope, code, and deploy PoCs in sprint-like cycles, then transition the most promising ideas into production with enterprise-grade CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and rigorous code reviews.
- • Translate complex technical concepts into crisp, executive-ready visuals and narratives. Using Visio, Draw.io, PowerPoint, and Power BI, you will craft architecture diagrams, data-flow charts, and ROI dashboards that secure stakeholder buy-in and guide investment decisions.
- • Serve as a trusted consultant to USPS architecture teams, identifying high-value automation opportunities where AI/ML can reduce manual effort, cut costs, and improve service reliability. You will collaborate with cross-functional squads spanning cybersecurity, infrastructure, and business analytics to deliver holistic, end-to-end solutions.
- • Champion secure coding practices and ethical AI guidelines. You will embed privacy-by-design principles, conduct bias audits, and ensure every model meets USPS governance and compliance standards. Partner with governance committees to document data lineage, obtain approvals, and maintain audit-ready artifacts.
- • Stay on the bleeding edge of technology by researching, evaluating, and presenting the latest Python packages, cloud AI services, and open-source frameworks. Your recommendations will shape the USPS technology roadmap and influence tooling decisions for years to come.
- • Provide tier-3 troubleshooting support for Python-based solutions across a vast, heterogeneous enterprise ecosystem. Debug distributed systems, optimize query performance across SQL and NoSQL stores, and mentor junior developers on design patterns that yield maintainable, scalable code.
- • Embrace continuous learning and adaptability within a 30,000-person global organization. Leverage internal mobility programs to broaden your expertise in cloud, cyber, and digital modernization domains, ensuring your career trajectory remains as dynamic as the technology you build.
