Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Join Cybermediatechnologies (CTEC) as a Java Developer and become the architect behind systems that safeguard and serve millions of Americans every single day. In this fully-remote role you will design, build, and modernize mission-critical applications for agencies like DHS, IRS, and OPM—platforms that citizens rely on when they file taxes, apply for benefits, or cross borders.
- • Own the full SDLC for cloud-native Java micro-services that power high-volume, zero-downtime workloads. You will translate complex federal requirements into elegant, secure code, leveraging Spring Boot, Hibernate, and containerized deployments on AWS or Azure GovCloud. Every commit you push goes straight into production environments that must scale to 10× traffic spikes without missing a beat.
- • Champion DevSecOps best practices by embedding automated security scans, unit tests, and performance benchmarks into CI/CD pipelines built with Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions. Your pipelines will gate every merge request with OWASP ZAP, SonarQube, and Fortify, ensuring that the code you ship is as bullet-proof as the missions it supports.
- • Collaborate daily with cross-functional squads that include UX designers, data engineers, and federal stakeholders. You will participate in agile ceremonies—stand-ups, sprint planning, and retros—while presenting technical trade-offs in plain English to non-technical program managers. Your ability to bridge the gap between policy and code will directly influence how quickly new features reach the public.
- • Modernize legacy monoliths into resilient, event-driven architectures. You will refactor COBOL and J2EE relics into reactive Spring WebFlux services, introduce Kafka for real-time data streaming, and migrate on-prem Oracle databases to PostgreSQL on RDS or Aurora. These transformations cut operational costs by up to 40 % and reduce deployment times from weeks to minutes.
- • Implement zero-trust security patterns—OAuth 2.0, mTLS, and fine-grained RBAC—across REST and GraphQL APIs. You will harden endpoints against OWASP Top 10 threats and ensure FISMA, FedRAMP, and NIST 800-53 controls are baked into every layer of the stack. Your security-first mindset protects sensitive PII and classified data from nation-state actors.
- • Optimize performance at scale by profiling JVMs with JFR, tuning GC algorithms, and caching hot data in Redis or Hazelcast. You will reduce API latency from 800 ms to sub-100 ms, enabling citizens to complete transactions in seconds rather than minutes. Your tuning efforts translate into measurable taxpayer savings and higher citizen satisfaction scores.
- • Mentor junior developers through pair programming, code reviews, and brown-bag sessions. You will establish coding standards, create reusable libraries, and foster a culture of continuous learning. Your leadership multiplies team velocity and ensures knowledge is never siloed.
- • Stay ahead of the curve by evaluating emerging technologies—Quarkus, GraalVM native images, and serverless Java on Lambda—and piloting them in sandbox environments. Your proof-of-concepts influence CTEC’s long-term technical roadmap and keep our federal clients at the forefront of innovation.
- • Document every decision in Confluence and generate architecture decision records (ADRs) that stand up to federal audits. Your clear, concise documentation accelerates onboarding and satisfies rigorous compliance reviews by agency inspectors general.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional Java development with deep expertise in Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and RESTful micro-services
- • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust or higher federal security clearance
- • Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes, EKS, or OpenShift) in production
- • Proven track record designing secure, scalable systems that meet FISMA, FedRAMP, or NIST 800-53 controls
- • Nice-to-have: AWS or Azure GovCloud certifications, experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ, and familiarity with modern JVM languages (Kotlin, Scala)
🏖️ Benefits
- • 100 % remote-first culture—work from anywhere in the U.S. with a one-time home-office stipend and monthly internet reimbursement
- • 20 days PTO plus 11 federal holidays and a paid volunteer day to support causes you care about
- • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance with 90 % employer-paid premiums for you and 75 % for dependents
- • 6 % 401(k) match, immediate vesting, and access to financial-planning advisors
- • Annual professional-development budget of $3,500 for conferences, certifications, and advanced training courses
