📋 Description

• Hudu is seeking a motivated and technically adept Junior DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the robust, secure, and efficient operation of our cutting-edge Ruby on Rails platform, which is hosted on AWS and orchestrated by Kubernetes. As a Junior DevOps Engineer at Hudu, you will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing our infrastructure, directly impacting the experience of thousands of IT professionals worldwide who rely on our documentation solution.
• You will be responsible for deploying and managing our Ruby on Rails applications across both production and staging environments within AWS and Kubernetes. This involves ensuring high availability, seamless scalability, and unwavering resilience, guaranteeing that our platform is always accessible and performs optimally for our users.
• A core aspect of this role is the implementation and rigorous maintenance of security best practices across our entire infrastructure. This includes managing identity and access (IAM), implementing encryption for data at rest and in transit, conducting container security scans, and ensuring timely patch management to safeguard our systems against evolving threats.
• You will be deeply involved in monitoring and analyzing application and infrastructure logs. This encompasses a wide range of sources, including Rails application logs, Kubernetes cluster logs, AWS CloudWatch, S3 access logs, Nginx, and PostgreSQL. Your proactive analysis of these logs will be crucial for identifying, investigating, and resolving issues before they impact our users.
• Debugging system performance bottlenecks is a key responsibility. You will have the opportunity to dive deep into the entire technology stack, from identifying slow database queries in PostgreSQL and addressing S3 object storage latency, to troubleshooting misconfigurations in Nginx or load balancers, and diagnosing Rails application-level performance issues.
• You will design, build, and maintain sophisticated CI/CD pipelines. These pipelines will automate our build, testing, and deployment processes, aiming for minimal downtime and maximum efficiency, enabling faster and more reliable releases of new features and updates.
• Collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with our development teams to enhance observability and instrumentation within our applications. This means ensuring that comprehensive metrics, tracing, and logging are in place, empowering us to diagnose and resolve issues with speed and precision.
• Infrastructure capacity planning will be part of your remit. You will contribute to ensuring that our cloud resources are optimally provisioned for both cost-effectiveness and performance, anticipating and scaling to meet the growing demands of our user base.
• You will be part of the incident response team, actively participating in the resolution of outages and critical incidents. Following these events, you will contribute to thorough root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences, thereby enhancing system stability.
• Maintaining and optimizing our Kubernetes clusters is essential. This includes managing resource allocation, configuring autoscaling mechanisms, and ensuring efficient workload distribution to maximize the performance and reliability of our containerized applications.
• You will work directly with our PostgreSQL databases, focusing on query tuning, configuring robust backup solutions, managing replication strategies, and ensuring overall database reliability and integrity.
• Managing and monitoring our cloud storage systems, such as AWS S3 and EBS, will be another key area of focus. You will ensure these systems are used securely, performantly, and cost-effectively.
• Developing and implementing disaster recovery strategies, including regular testing of backups and failover processes, will be crucial for business continuity.
• Continuous learning and improvement are highly valued. You will be encouraged to stay current with the latest trends and best practices in DevOps, Ruby on Rails, AWS, and Kubernetes, applying this knowledge to continuously enhance our system's reliability, security, and performance.

🎯 Requirements

• Associates degree required; Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience in computer science.
• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a DevOps engineering role.
• Working knowledge of AWS (EC2, Aurora, S3), PostgreSQL, Puma, Nginx, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Ruby programming language and Ubuntu operating system.
• Proficiency with Git or Mercurial, and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or GitLab Pipelines.
