- • The Koch Internship Program (KIP) offers a unique, paid, 12-week experiential learning opportunity designed for inquisitive, creative, and self-motivated college juniors, seniors, graduate students, or recent graduates who are passionate about advancing the principles of individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and the rule of law. This program, run by Stand Together Fellowships, provides meaningful professional experience at leading non-profit organizations across the United States that are dedicated to tackling some of the nation's most pressing challenges.
- • As a Strategic Research Intern at Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF), you will become an integral part of a dynamic team focused on generating high-quality social science research. This research is crucial for supporting PLF’s mission-driven goals and is conducted in close coordination with PLF’s Litigation, Legal Policy, Constitutional Scholarship, and Communications teams. This internship is designed to offer a wide spectrum of valuable experiences, allowing you to contribute to impactful projects and develop a comprehensive understanding of public interest law and policy.
- • Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of critical tasks. You will gain hands-on experience in communicating directly with public officials to meticulously obtain public records, a vital step in gathering necessary information for legal and policy initiatives. You will be actively involved in the entire data lifecycle: collecting, organizing, and rigorously analyzing data. Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Excel, R, Python, GIS, or Stata will be honed or utilized during this process, providing you with practical data science skills.
- • A significant aspect of the role involves conducting in-depth literature reviews on a diverse range of critical topics. These subjects may include regulatory reform, housing supply challenges, property rights, coastal land rights, and other areas central to PLF’s mission. This research will provide you with a deep understanding of the legal and policy landscapes PLF navigates.
- • You will contribute to the development of internal data crucial for supporting PLF’s litigation efforts, shaping communication strategies, and advancing legal policy campaigns. This involves translating raw data into actionable insights that drive PLF’s advocacy.
- • Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to hone your writing skills by crafting compelling content such as blog posts, op-eds, or concise one-pagers. These pieces will articulate PLF’s positions and research findings on topics directly relevant to the organization’s work, contributing to the public discourse and raising awareness.
- • The KIP program extends beyond the specific internship role, offering a robust professional development component. This includes a mandatory 2-day, in-person summit hosted by Stand Together Fellowships at their Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia (June 3-4, 2026). This summit is designed to deepen your understanding of foundational principles of a free society, explore the Stand Together community's vision for change, and identify pathways for a career dedicated to advancing liberty.
- • In addition to the in-person summit, you will participate in virtual programming every other Thursday between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM ET. This ongoing virtual engagement ensures continuous learning and networking opportunities throughout the program.
- • Pacific Legal Foundation, the nation's first and most successful public interest law firm, is dedicated to vindicating individual liberty through strategic and principled litigation, communications, and research. With an unparalleled record in the U.S. Supreme Court and nearly 200 active cases nationwide, PLF is at the forefront of defending freedom in the courts and the court of public opinion.
- • This is a part-time role, offering flexibility while providing a substantial and impactful experience. Interns are typically remote but have the option to request to work physically in one of PLF’s offices located in Sacramento, California; Arlington, Virginia; or Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Eligibility requires geographical location within the U.S. and authorization to work in the U.S. for the entire program duration.
- • This internship is an exceptional chance to gain practical experience in a high-impact legal and policy environment, contribute to significant research projects, and develop a strong foundation for a career dedicated to advancing liberty and free society. You will work alongside experienced professionals and contribute to real-world initiatives that defend the rights of Americans against government overreach.
🎯 Requirements
- • Currently enrolled as a college junior, senior, graduate student, or a recent graduate.
- • Strong written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- • Demonstrated interest in or knowledge of principles of individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and the rule of law.
- • Experience or coursework in social science research methods, data analysis (e.g., Excel, R, Python, GIS, Stata), or relevant analytical coursework.
- • Self-motivated, inquisitive, and creative with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- • Ability to commit to the full 12-week program duration, including mandatory virtual sessions every other Thursday (1-4 PM ET) and the in-person summit in Arlington, VA (June 3-4, 2026).
🏖️ Benefits
- • Paid internship with a stipend of $7,500 (full-time, 32 hrs/week) or $5,500 (part-time, 24 hrs/week) from Stand Together Fellowships.
- • 12-week experiential learning program offering meaningful professional work experience.
- • Professional development programming, including a 2-day in-person summit at Stand Together HQ in Arlington, VA (June 3-4, 2026).
- • Virtual professional development sessions every other Thursday (1-4 PM ET).
- • Opportunity to contribute to impactful research supporting a leading public interest law firm dedicated to individual liberty.
- • Networking opportunities with professionals in the public interest and free society movement.
