- • Be the linguistic guardian for one of the most ambitious ed-tech initiatives in the United States. NYC Public Schools (NYCPS) educates 1.1 million students who speak more than 200 languages at home. The Hello App is being purpose-built to break down language barriers between teachers and families, and your native Ukrainian expertise will directly shape how Ukrainian-speaking parents engage with their children’s education.
- • Your day-to-day work will center on end-to-end validation of speech-to-text and machine-translation pipelines. You will record high-quality Ukrainian voice samples covering classroom vocabulary, report-card terminology, special-education phrases, and everyday parent-teacher dialogue. Each recording becomes a test case that trains and fine-tunes the app’s acoustic models.
- • After the system transcribes your voice, you will scrutinize every word for phonetic accuracy, regional accent tolerance, and contextual correctness. You will flag false homophones, missing diacritics, or any deviation from standard Ukrainian orthography, then document the precise correction in a shared validation log.
- • Next, you will review the English translations generated by the Hello App. Your task is to ensure that meaning, nuance, and tone survive the journey from Ukrainian to English. You will catch over-literal renditions, culturally mismatched idioms, or gendered language that could inadvertently offend or confuse educators and parents.
- • You will then reverse the process: feed the validated English text back into the system and evaluate the Ukrainian output. This round-trip test exposes drift, hallucinations, or loss of critical detail. You will quantify error rates and propose glossary additions or re-training data to close any gaps.
- • Throughout testing you will operate inside a secure, FERPA-compliant environment. All audio and text samples are encrypted in transit and at rest; you will follow strict protocols for data handling, user anonymization, and secure deletion once validation cycles are complete.
- • You will collaborate daily with Nagarro engineers, NYCPS instructional staff, and fellow language specialists via Slack, Jira, and Zoom. You will translate linguistic findings into actionable Jira tickets that include reproducible steps, severity ratings, and suggested fixes.
- • Your feedback will directly influence product roadmaps. When you discover systemic issues—such as inconsistent transliteration of proper names or poor handling of code-switching between Ukrainian and Russian—you will brief the engineering team and co-design data-collection strategies to resolve them.
- • You will also contribute to user-facing documentation. Clear, jargon-free release notes, FAQ entries, and quick-start videos for Ukrainian-speaking families will carry your linguistic fingerprints, ensuring that non-technical users can trust the translations they receive.
- • Finally, you will participate in monthly retrospectives with NYCPS leadership. Your insights on language trends, emerging slang, or regional dialect shifts will help keep the Hello App current and culturally relevant for years to come.

- • Native fluency in Ukrainian (spoken and written) and professional-level proficiency in English
- • Demonstrated experience in linguistic validation, QA testing, translation review, or computational linguistics
- • Working knowledge of FERPA, data-privacy, or other regulatory compliance frameworks
- • Comfortable with remote collaboration tools (Jira, Slack, Zoom) and able to meet tight sprint deadlines
