Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Embark on a crucial role within First American Financial Corporation's Direct division as a Lay Examiner, where you will be instrumental in ensuring the integrity and clarity of property titles. This position is central to the real estate transaction process, providing essential title insurance protection and professional settlement services for a wide array of property dealings, including purchases, refinances, and equity loans.
  • • As a Lay Examiner, your primary responsibility will be to meticulously search public records and conduct thorough title examinations, predominantly for residential properties. This involves delving into the historical documentation associated with a property to ascertain its legal condition and establish a clear chain of title.
  • • You will be tasked with abstracting and analyzing a variety of critical legal documents. This includes, but is not limited to, mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, vital statistics records, and plat and map books. The objective is to accurately determine ownership, identify any legal restrictions that may encumber the property, and verify the completeness and accuracy of the recorded information.
  • • A significant aspect of your role will involve resolving discrepancies and issues that arise during the examination process. This could range from identifying missing information to addressing incomplete, inaccurate, or contradictory details found within the title documentation. Your analytical skills will be key in navigating these complexities and ensuring a clear path forward.
  • • Based on your findings and in accordance with established procedural guidelines, you will prepare the initial title commitment documentation. This document is a critical precursor to issuing title insurance, outlining the conditions under which coverage will be provided.
  • • You will also be responsible for preparing and reviewing reports to ensure their utmost accuracy and completeness before they are finalized and distributed. This attention to detail is paramount in maintaining the high standards expected by First American.
  • • In certain capacities, and within established guidelines, you may be called upon to provide underwriting interpretations, contributing your expertise to the decision-making process regarding title insurance policies.
  • • This role offers the opportunity to work independently, leveraging your experience to examine titles of varying complexity. You will be a key contributor to the production center or branch office environment, with your specific workflow often influenced by established geographic practices.
  • • Beyond these core duties, you will be expected to undertake other assigned tasks that contribute to the overall success of the team and the company, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to supporting departmental goals.
  • • First American's commitment to its people is at the forefront of its operations. As a Lay Examiner, you will join a team that values innovation, support, and empowerment. The company's inclusive, people-first culture has been recognized through numerous accolades, including consistent placement on the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For® list, and awards for being a best place to work for women, diversity, and LGBTQ+ employees.
  • • You will be part of an organization that has been a trusted partner in the real estate industry since 1889, known for its unwavering belief in its employees and its dedication to fostering an environment where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential.
  • • The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a keen eye for detail, ensuring that all title examinations are conducted with the highest level of precision and care. Your contributions will directly impact the security and confidence of real estate transactions for clients.
  • • This position offers a competitive hourly pay range and the flexibility of remote work, allowing you to contribute effectively from your home office. You will be provided with the necessary tools and support to succeed in this vital role, contributing to First American's legacy of excellence.
