- • Design, automate, and maintain highly reliable Cloud-based SQL Server database infrastructure supporting Coupa’s mission-critical spend management platform.
- • Lead the design and implementation of database automation solutions to improve system resilience, reduce manual toil, and ensure 99.9%+ availability for production environments.
- • Serve as a hands-on technical leader for a team of database engineers, providing mentorship, code reviews, and guidance on best practices in database reliability and operations.
- • Partner closely with development, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver secure, performant, and scalable data platforms aligned with business objectives.
- • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL Server performance across multi-cloud environments, identifying bottlenecks and implementing proactive remediation strategies.
- • Implement and enforce database change management processes, including automated testing, rollback procedures, and deployment pipelines to minimize risk during releases.
- • Drive incident response and post-mortem analysis for database-related outages, ensuring root causes are addressed and preventive measures are institutionalized.
- • Collaborate on capacity planning and scalability initiatives to support Coupa’s global network of 10M+ buyers and suppliers processing trillions of dollars in spend data.
- • Evaluate and integrate new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance database reliability, observability, and operational efficiency.
- • Document system architectures, operational runbooks, and knowledge bases to ensure team-wide continuity and knowledge sharing.
- • Advocate for infrastructure-as-code practices and infrastructure automation across database deployments using modern DevOps tooling.
- • Ensure compliance with security policies and data governance standards across all database environments.
- • Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical database systems, responding to alerts and resolving incidents with speed and precision.
- • Translate business requirements into technical specifications for database infrastructure, balancing performance, cost, and reliability trade-offs.
- • Champion a culture of ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement within the database reliability engineering team.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience as a Database Reliability Engineer or similar role with deep expertise in Cloud-based SQL Server environments
- • Strong proficiency in automating database operations using scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
- • Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring junior engineers and driving technical initiatives across cross-functional teams
- • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and managing SQL Server at scale in production
- • Solid understanding of database performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery, and backup/recovery strategies
- • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog) for database systems
