- • Architect the core workflow engine that orchestrates thousands of autonomous, AI-driven back-office tasks for HVAC contractors. You will design event-driven, fault-tolerant systems that route invoices, permits, rebates, pricebooks, and warranty registrations through a blend of LLM agents and human-in-the-loop oversight—turning 20 hours of weekly paperwork into minutes of review.
- • Own the end-to-end technical roadmap for our platform’s backend and infrastructure. From schema design in MongoDB Atlas to container orchestration in AWS ECS, you will make foundational choices that let us scale from hundreds to tens of thousands of contractors without rewrites.
- • Build AI-enabled services that translate messy PDFs, emails, and photos into structured data and trigger downstream workflows. You will integrate with Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, and Deepgram, craft prompt pipelines, and implement guardrails that keep accuracy above 99 % while continuously learning from human feedback.
- • Create internal tooling that supercharges our operations team. Think low-code dashboards that let account managers spin up new customer workflows in minutes, real-time anomaly detection that flags edge cases for human review, and analytics that quantify ROI for every contractor.
- • Collaborate daily with founders, product, and operations in a tight feedback loop. You will whiteboard user journeys at 9 a.m., ship code by lunch, and watch real contractors use it by dinner—iterating on the fly to maximize impact.
- • Establish engineering best practices: automated CI/CD in our NX monorepo, typed contracts across frontend and backend, Terraform-managed IaC, and observability that surfaces actionable alerts before customers notice issues.
- • Mentor future hires and shape team culture. As the third or fourth engineer, you will set the bar for code quality, review PRs with empathy, and help recruit the next wave of builders who will 10× our velocity.
- • Champion security and compliance. You will lock down PII, design role-based access controls, and ensure SOC 2 readiness so that small-business owners trust us with their most sensitive data.
- • Experiment relentlessly. Whether that means A/B testing new LLM prompts, spinning up a vector database for semantic search, or prototyping a voice-to-workflow interface, you will turn bold ideas into production features that delight users.
- • Drive technical storytelling. You will write architecture decision records, present lunch-and-learns on event sourcing, and share post-mortems that turn every outage into institutional knowledge.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years shipping production-grade software, with deep expertise in scalable backend design and modern TypeScript/Node.js stacks
- • Proven ability to own projects end-to-end—from whiteboard sketches and schema design to deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvement
- • Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) and a clear point of view on prompt engineering, evaluation, and guardrails
- • Comfort with ambiguity and rapid change; thrive in pre-Series A environments where priorities shift and “wearing many hats” is the norm
- • (Nice-to-have) Prior startup or workflow-engine experience; familiarity with event-driven architectures, Terraform IaC, or the skilled-trades domain
