- • Lead mechanical and product design engineering for V1 products from concept to production, owning end-to-end development of complex electromechanical systems integrating plastic, metal, and soft goods components with novel sensors and actuators.
- • Architect and drive mechanical designs across the full product lifecycle, including brainstorming, 3D CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, validation, and ramp-up into high-volume manufacturing in Asia.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, software, reliability, and manufacturing engineering teams to solve integrated system challenges and ensure seamless hardware-software alignment.
- • Perform detailed engineering analyses including thermal, fluid, and structural evaluations to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and durability targets.
- • Apply design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA) principles, tolerance analysis, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to optimize designs for high-volume production.
- • Partner with industrial design, marketing, and product teams to translate user needs and brand vision into technically feasible, high-performance mechanical solutions.
- • Support manufacturing operations in Asia, providing on-site engineering guidance during tooling, pilot runs, and production ramp-up phases.
- • Conduct root cause analysis and design of experiments (DOEs) to resolve quality issues and improve yield, reliability, and consistency in mass-produced units.
- • Contribute to product roadmap and feature direction by working directly with company leadership to align mechanical innovation with business and customer goals.
- • Ensure all mechanical designs comply with global regulatory standards and internal quality benchmarks for consumer electronics and wearable sleep technology.
- • Maintain documentation for design intent, test results, change orders, and manufacturing specifications to support scalability and audit readiness.
- • Travel to China as needed to support manufacturing partners, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure product quality at scale.
- • Serve as the primary mechanical engineering authority on the team, mentoring junior engineers and setting technical standards for mechanical design excellence.
🎯 Requirements
- • 6+ years of consumer product design experience with expertise in injection molding, sheet metal forming, and sensor/electronics integration
- • Proven track record of shipping high-volume consumer products with manufacturing support in Asia
- • Highly proficient in 3D modeling tools such as SolidWorks, NX, or Creo
- • Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes, DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, and GD&T
- • Solid understanding of root cause analysis, DOEs, and quality measurement techniques
- • BS in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent
