Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead the Controls Design Development team, owning template designs, Statements of Operations (SOOs), points lists, bills of materials (BOMs), and Division 25 specifications that all modular data center builds inherit.
- • Set the technical direction for controls design by establishing standards, platforms, and reference architectures used across the entire fleet of data centers.
- • Drive design decisions to resolution across mechanical, electrical, commissioning, and construction teams to ensure controls design never delays site schedules.
- • Grow and scale the controls engineering team by hiring talented engineers and raising the bar on the quality and repeatability of their design output.
- • Own the quality and consistency of every design package produced by the team, ensuring the hundredth site is designed faster and cleaner than the first.
- • Author or own integrated automation specifications under Division 25 of CSI MasterFormat, with deep understanding of what makes a spec field-deployable versus one that generates change orders.
- • Write and validate Sequences of Operations (SOOs) from concept through to working code, ensuring designs are genuinely buildable and not just theoretically correct.
- • Make rapid, defensible design decisions that balance competing priorities from mechanical, electrical, and construction stakeholders with differing objectives.
- • Deliver controls systems for 50+ GW of data center capacity this decade, enabling real-time load control and integration of MEP systems and behind-the-meter infrastructure.
- • Automate Level 4 and Level 5 commissioning processes to accelerate deployment and reduce manual intervention.
- • Drive autonomous and robotic deployment methodologies for controls systems in modular data center environments.
- • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure seamless integration of controls architecture with overall data center infrastructure.
- • Maintain extreme ownership over end-to-end design development, often expanding scope beyond core responsibilities to ensure project velocity and success.
- • Operate with first-principles thinking, challenging assumptions and prioritizing the best idea over hierarchy or tradition.
- • Work at high intensity with a focus on velocity, contributing to the mission of building civilization-scale AI infrastructure.
🎯 Requirements
- • Led a controls or design engineering team, owning both technical output and team development.
- • Set controls design standards, reference architectures, or specifications used across multiple projects, not just individual deliverables.
- • Authored or owned Division 25 integrated automation specifications with proven field deployability.
- • Written and validated Sequences of Operations (SOOs) from design to working code.
- • Made fast, defensible design decisions across mechanical, electrical, and construction stakeholders.
- • Hired and grown controls engineers, with a track record of teams trusting the quality of your team’s deliverables.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Compensation range of $250,000 - $300,000 per year, based on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
- • Equity in the form of stock options.
- • Extreme ownership and full autonomy in role execution.
- • Opportunity to work on frontier AI infrastructure at civilization scale.
