Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Lead the end-to-end development and evolution of SignalWire’s core product platforms including APIs, SDKs, AI Agent platform, Call Fabric, and SWML, ensuring seamless developer and end-user experiences across the entire stack.
  • • Own technical quality across performance, reliability, latency, and developer experience, setting and enforcing standards that elevate the stability and usability of all shipped products.
  • • Collaborate closely with engineering leadership, product teams, and the developer community to translate emerging trends in real-time AI and programmable communications into actionable, customer-driven product initiatives.
  • • Drive product-oriented engineering decisions by deeply understanding who uses the platform, why they use it, how well it performs for them, and what iterative improvements will deliver the greatest impact.
  • • Act as a technical mentor and influence team culture by raising the bar through rigorous code reviews, improving tooling, and establishing engineering best practices that enhance team productivity and code quality.
  • • Debug and resolve complex infrastructure and system-level issues spanning backend services, frontend interfaces, and distributed communication systems.
  • • Utilize experimental data and empirical findings to guide product prioritization, architectural choices, and feature iterations, ensuring decisions are grounded in measurable outcomes rather than assumptions.
  • • Champion the developer experience by identifying and eliminating pain points such as poorly designed APIs, insufficient documentation, and confusing error messages, treating these as critical product flaws to be fixed.
  • • Rapidly learn and integrate unfamiliar systems and technologies, adapting quickly to evolving technical demands across a full-stack environment.
  • • Set and maintain a high standard for software craftsmanship, balancing speed of delivery with long-term maintainability, scalability, and developer satisfaction.
  • • Translate abstract product vision into concrete technical roadmaps, ensuring alignment between engineering execution and strategic business goals.
  • • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for external developers and internal stakeholders, bridging communication between product needs and engineering feasibility.
  • • Continuously evaluate and advocate for technologies and methodologies that improve system performance, reduce latency, and enhance developer onboarding and retention.
  • • Drive 0-to-1 product initiatives from problem definition through production deployment, particularly in high-growth or startup-like environments where ambiguity is common and iteration is rapid.
  • • Maintain deep awareness of real-time communication stacks, telecom infrastructure, and CPaaS/CCaaS platforms to ensure SignalWire’s offerings remain technically competitive and market-relevant.
  • • Integrate and evaluate AI-driven workflows and agents, applying critical perspective to their strengths and limitations in real-world communication use cases.
  • • Operate with ownership across the entire software lifecycle — from ideation and architecture through deployment, monitoring, and iterative refinement.
  • • Foster an inclusive engineering culture that encourages collaboration, continuous learning, and accountability across distributed teams.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 6+ years of practical engineering experience with demonstrated ability to operate as a technical leader
  • • Strong full-stack development skills with proven experience building backend services, frontend interfaces, and debugging infrastructure issues
  • • Product-oriented mindset with a track record of making meaningful product decisions grounded in user data and developer feedback
  • • Experience raising team standards through mentorship, code review, tooling improvements, or setting engineering benchmarks
