  • • The Learning Experience Designer at Coursera plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of global education by designing scalable, skill-aligned, and innovative learning experiences that empower millions of learners worldwide. This role directly supports Coursera’s mission to provide universal access to world-class learning by translating subject-matter expertise into high-quality, vendor-ready instructional designs that drive engagement, outcomes, and real-world impact.
  • • Day to day, the Learning Experience Designer will lead the end-to-end design of Coursera-produced learning experiences, including short- and long-form courses, Specializations, and Professional Certificates, with a focus on modular, skill-aligned architecture and robust assessment design. They will collaborate closely with subject-matter experts (SMEs), APAC partners, and external production vendors to translate expertise into actionable design deliverables such as learning outcomes, program outlines, sequenced learning journeys, storyboards, and assessment specifications. The role involves leveraging replicable design systems, templates, and acceptance criteria to ensure consistency and quality across vendor production, while also contributing to pedagogical R&D by prototyping new learning designs and helping develop AI-assisted tools, prompts, and workflows to increase efficiency without compromising rigor. Additionally, the designer will engage in repackaging initiatives — recombining existing modules and assets into new offerings aligned to emerging skill outcomes — and provide detailed, constructive feedback and QA checks to vendors and internal teams to uphold Coursera’s gold-standard learning experience.
  • • The Learning Experience Designer will be part of Coursera’s Content & Credentials organization, specifically within the Teaching & Learning team, a group of learning design experts, researchers, and consultants dedicated to advancing best practices in content development. This team works cross-functionally with Learning Analytics, Content Production Management, and Content Maintenance & Optimization to ensure alignment, share insights, and continuously improve the platform’s educational efficacy. As a globally distributed organization, Coursera fosters a culture of innovation, experimentation, and data-informed iteration, where designers are empowered to move fast, simplify ruthlessly, and iterate based on learner metrics that matter.
  • • In this role, the Learning Experience Designer will deepen their expertise in cutting-edge learning design methodologies, including modular curriculum architecture, competency-based assessment, and AI-augmented content creation. They will gain hands-on experience with generative AI tools like Coursera’s Coach, Role Play, and Course Builder, and develop fluency in learning analytics and data-driven optimization practices. The role offers significant opportunities to influence the design of global learning programs, build a portfolio of impactful, scalable educational products, and grow as a leader in the evolving field of online education — all while contributing to Coursera’s B Corp mission of using business as a force for good.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning Sciences, Education, or a related field.
  • • 3–5 years of relevant experience in instructional/learning design, curriculum development, or learning product design.
  • • Demonstrated experience working with subject-matter experts (SMEs) and external production vendors to translate designs into production-ready deliverables.
  • • Proven ability to design modular, skill-aligned learning experiences and robust assessment systems.
  • • Hands-on experience using generative AI tools (e.g., for content ideation, storyboarding, or workflow automation) in learning design or production contexts.
  • • Familiarity with authoring and design tools such as Figma, Articulate Storyline, or similar platforms is preferred.
