📋 Description

• Serve as the primary legal expert for Anduril’s real estate, facilities, and project management teams, specializing in construction law from the perspective of an owner, developer, or tenant.
• Draft, negotiate, and review a broad range of construction-related agreements including Owner-General Contractor contracts (Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, Construction Management at Risk), design professional agreements (architects, engineers), consultant contracts (environmental, geotechnical, project management), subcontractor agreements, performance and payment bonds, lien waivers, and project-specific insurance riders.
• Provide strategic legal guidance throughout the entire construction project lifecycle—from procurement and contracting to close-out—ensuring timely delivery, risk mitigation, and alignment with business objectives.
• Represent Anduril in negotiations with general contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to secure optimal contractual terms and risk allocation for the company.
• Manage and advise on construction claims, disputes, delays, defects, warranty issues, and payment disputes, including developing resolution strategies for litigation, arbitration, or settlement with a bias for swift action.
• Develop, standardize, and maintain internal construction contract templates, playbooks, and processes to enhance efficiency, consistency, and risk management across Anduril’s expanding portfolio of facilities.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local construction laws, building codes, licensing requirements, and defense contracting regulations applicable to Anduril’s facilities and projects.
• Collaborate with the compliance function to ensure adherence to environmental laws, zoning regulations, and land use requirements tied to construction and facility operations.
• Conduct legal due diligence for construction-related aspects of property acquisitions, major leases, and project financings.
• Advise on the legal implications of project schedules, budgets, and quality control measures to support operational readiness and mission-critical timelines.
• Work closely with internal business units to understand project goals, anticipate legal risks, and deliver pragmatic, business-oriented legal solutions that accelerate project momentum.
• Leverage legal research platforms, contract lifecycle management systems, and collaboration tools to optimize workflow efficiency and adapt to evolving technological solutions.
• Operate full-time in Anduril’s Costa Mesa, California office; remote or hybrid work is not available due to the need for in-person collaboration.
• Maintain active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state and obtain authorization to practice in California (via California Bar membership or Registered In-House Counsel status).
• Ensure all legal activities comply with U.S. export control requirements, as the role requires access to sensitive defense-related information and facilities.

🎯 Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top-tier accredited law school
• Minimum of 7 years of experience practicing construction law, with significant focus on representing owners, developers, or sophisticated tenants in commercial, industrial, or high-tech construction projects
• Active membership in good standing with the bar in at least one U.S. state, with ability to become authorized to practice in California
• Demonstrated expertise in drafting, negotiating, and interpreting AIA document families (e.g., A101, A201, B101, C401) and ConsensusDocs
• Proven ability to thrive in a high-volume, rapidly evolving environment while managing a substantial portfolio of complex projects under tight deadlines
• Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities
