- • As a Linux System Software Engineer at Taara, you will play a pivotal role in advancing global connectivity by developing the core operating system software for wireless optical communication terminals that aim to bridge the digital divide for billions of underserved populations.
- • Your work will directly contribute to Taara’s mission of delivering faster, cheaper, and more reliable internet access through innovative light-based communication technologies pioneered at X, Google’s Moonshot Factory.
- • Day to day, you will design, develop, and maintain system-level software applications for Taara’s next-generation wireless optical terminals, ensuring robust performance in real-world field deployments.
- • You will build deep expertise in Taara’s proprietary silicon photonics and active steering technologies, integrating software with cutting-edge hardware to enable precise beam control and signal optimization.
- • Collaborating closely with hardware engineers, network operators, and field teams, you will implement telemetry and monitoring solutions that provide real-time visibility into network health and performance.
- • Applying scalable reliability engineering practices, you will diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues arising in large-scale, geographically dispersed deployments, improving system uptime and resilience.
- • You will stay current with emerging IoT device trends and communication protocols, evaluating their applicability to enhance Taara’s network management and interoperability capabilities.

🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Networking, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- • 5+ years of experience developing application software for Linux-based platforms
- • Strong programming skills in C++ for both development and unit/regression testing
- • Experience with multi-threaded programming, state-machine, and event-driven programming techniques
- • Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms
- • Experience interacting with hardware peripherals such as SPI, I2C, UART, and similar interfaces
- • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- • Ability to work from the Sunnyvale office at least 3 days per week
