📋 Description

  • Join Butternut Box, a rapidly expanding, mission-driven company dedicated to delivering health and happiness to dogs everywhere, as a commercially-minded Management Accountant for our Northern European markets.
  • Take full ownership of the accounting and reporting for our Northern European operations, initially focusing on the Netherlands and Belgium, and playing a crucial role in the upcoming launch and financial setup of our Nordic markets.
  • This pivotal role offers a unique blend of technical financial control and proactive business partnering, providing a comprehensive view of regional performance and contributing directly to the commercial success of our European expansion.
  • You will be the financial custodian for your designated regions, driving precision in numbers, delivering actionable insights, and offering proactive support to regional leadership.
  • This opportunity is ideal for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) making their first move from practice into a commercial setting, or for an experienced industry professional, preferably within a product-led business.
  • *Financial Ownership & Reporting:**
  • Lead the entire end-to-end month-end close process for the Benelux and Nordic regions, ensuring the utmost accuracy and timely delivery of comprehensive management accounts.
  • Take full responsibility for the periodic balance sheet, conducting robust reconciliations and providing insightful, narrative-driven commentary on variances and trends.
  • Oversee and direct the weekly payment run process, meticulously maintaining excellent ledger hygiene to ensure our financial foundations are robust, scalable, and ready for continued rapid growth.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external tax and accounting advisors, expertly navigating the complexities of multiple European jurisdictions to guarantee seamless, on-time filings and full compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively identify opportunities and implement best-in-class control improvements across financial processes, streamlining the month-end cycle to enhance data integrity, reporting accuracy, and overall efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local statutory bodies and external auditors, ensuring smooth audit processes and compliance.
  • *Business Partnering & Commercial Analysis:**
  • Act as the dedicated finance partner for Regional Leads across Northern Europe, transforming complex financial data into clear, actionable commercial narratives that empower informed decision-making.
  • Provide detailed and commercially astute commentary on financial performance against budget and forecasts, clearly identifying key performance drivers, potential risks, and emerging opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with department heads to support their budget and forecasting activities, working in tandem with our dedicated FP&A team to ensure cohesive financial planning.
  • Partner with the wider finance team to develop, implement, and track key regional performance indicators (KPIs) that are critical for driving sustainable growth and profitability in these territories.
  • Identify, quantify, and actively contribute to the delivery of initiatives aimed at improving customer Lifetime Value (LTV), enhancing overall profitability, and optimizing working capital management.
  • Play an integral role in the strategic planning and execution phases of further expansionary efforts across the Northern European region, ensuring our financial models and infrastructure scale seamlessly and effectively into new territories.
  • Support the development and implementation of new financial systems and processes as the business continues its international growth trajectory.
  • Analyze pricing strategies and promotional effectiveness to provide insights that drive revenue growth and margin improvement.
  • Assist in the evaluation of new market entry opportunities from a financial perspective, including due diligence and financial modelling.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial analysis and reports to support strategic projects and business initiatives as required by senior management.
  • Champion financial discipline and commercial awareness throughout the Northern European teams, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial reporting tools and techniques to enhance clarity and impact.
  • Ensure all financial activities are conducted in line with company policies and ethical standards.
  • This role is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact within a fast-growing, dynamic company, offering substantial scope for professional development and career progression as we continue to scale our European presence.
