📋 Description

• As Manager, Accounting (Compensation) at Kraken, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of compensation-related accounting processes, directly supporting the company’s mission to accelerate global crypto adoption through financial integrity and operational excellence.
• You will lead the review and approval of payroll and compensation entries—including base pay, bonuses, commissions, stock-based compensation, and internally developed software capitalization—before they are recorded in the general ledger, ensuring alignment with U.S. GAAP and internal controls.
• You will take ownership of business unit general ledgers, serving as the primary point of contact for statutory audits and ensuring all transactions are recorded with precision, completeness, and timeliness across multiple entities and geographies.
• You will reconcile G/L accounts and review reconciliations prepared by others, identifying and resolving discrepancies, particularly in complex intercompany structures spanning 70+ countries and multiple legal entities.
• You will collaborate closely with Payroll, Accounts Payable, Platform Operations, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Human Resources, and Compliance teams to ensure seamless integration of compensation data into broader financial reporting and regulatory compliance efforts.
• You will assist in implementing internal controls and accounting processes, including documenting process narratives, designing flowcharts, and supporting the adoption of new U.S. GAAP standards through coordination with process owners and execution of system and disclosure changes.
• You will perform intercompany accounting, including reconciliation of balances, identifying gaps between entities and counterparties globally, and working with Treasury to ensure proper treatment of complex financial transactions.
• You will support business unit financial statements and contribute to audit readiness by interacting effectively with internal and external auditors, providing clear documentation and explanations of compensation-related accounting treatments.
• You will operate in a fully remote, globally distributed environment, collaborating with Krakenites across 70+ countries and 50+ languages, embodying the company’s crypto-native culture of innovation, transparency, and mission-driven execution.

🎯 Requirements

• University degree in Accounting or equivalent with at least 7 years of relevant working experience
• Chartered Accountant (CA, CPA, or equivalent) preferred
• Proven experience in compensation accounting, including stock-based compensation, bonuses, commissions, and payroll accruals
• Background in accounting for financial services, fintech, banking, or cryptocurrency exchanges strongly preferred
• Experience working in multi-entity organizations with complex intercompany structures and global operations
• Proficiency in ERP systems such as NetSuite or Oracle, and advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH, and SUMIF
