- • Alteryx is seeking a visionary Engineering Manager to spearhead our Engineering Insights & FinOps function, a critical role designed to foster transparency, accountability, and financial discipline across our engineering organization. This is a remote-friendly position, offering flexibility for talented individuals across the US.
- • The core mission of this team is to deliver high-quality operational dashboards and robust engineering health metrics, providing executive-level visibility into engineering performance. You will be instrumental in tracking the adoption of internal platforms, services, and best practices, while also driving FinOps excellence to optimize cloud and infrastructure spend.
- • This role uniquely blends deep data expertise with engineering operations and financial accountability. The ideal candidate will possess a strong FinOps background and a proven track record of building data-driven engineering organizations that are both efficient and cost-conscious.
- • As the Engineering Manager, you will empower engineering managers to gain a comprehensive understanding of their services' health, enabling them to make informed decisions. You will provide executives with clear, actionable insights into both operational performance and financial expenditures, ensuring engineering investments are directly aligned with measurable business outcomes.
- • A primary responsibility involves leading the Engineering Insights Function. This includes managing and growing a team of data-focused individual contributors proficient in SQL, Python, and BI tools. You will be responsible for defining and standardizing key engineering health metrics, overseeing the design and delivery of insightful dashboards (utilizing tools like Superset), and ensuring the utmost data quality, consistency, and trustworthiness. Your ability to translate complex metrics into actionable insights will be paramount.
- • You will also own the FinOps Strategy & Execution. This entails leading cloud cost visibility and allocation initiatives, implementing sophisticated cost attribution models across various teams and services, and defining critical cost KPIs for each product, service, and environment. A significant part of this role is driving cost optimization initiatives in close collaboration with engineering leaders and partnering with the Finance department to ensure engineering spend aligns perfectly with company targets. Establishing robust budgeting, forecasting, and variance tracking processes will be key to success.
- • Executive and Cross-Functional Alignment is another crucial aspect. You will be responsible for providing executive-level dashboards that offer comprehensive views of service health, operational efficiency, cost trends, and the adoption of platforms and standards. This requires close collaboration with Platform and Infrastructure teams, DevOps/SRE, Finance, and Product leadership to ensure alignment on metric definitions and governance.
- • Driving Operational Excellence is essential. You will build and maintain a consistent framework for tracking service reliability metrics, change velocity, delivery metrics, incident impact, and platform adoption. Identifying systemic inefficiencies or financial risks and driving continuous improvement through data-driven strategies will be a core focus.
- • Success in this role within the first 6-12 months will be marked by the establishment of clear, trusted dashboards utilized by engineering managers, enhanced executive visibility into engineering operational performance, accurate cost attribution across services and teams, measurable improvements in cloud cost efficiency, and the generation of adoption metrics that inform strategic platform investment decisions.
- • Long-term success will see the engineering organization operating with a strong sense of financial accountability, cloud spend scaling predictably with business growth, platform investments being demonstrably optimized, and leadership making critical decisions based on reliable operational and financial insights. You will essentially build the operating system that seamlessly connects engineering performance with tangible financial outcomes, ensuring Alteryx scales efficiently and effectively.
