- • Lead and grow a team of Forward Deployed Engineers delivering production systems with frontier models, ensuring high-stakes customer deployments translate research breakthroughs into real-world impact.
- • Own end-to-end delivery outcomes by driving clarity, speed, tight coordination, and technical quality while partnering with Product, Research, Sales, and GTM to inform roadmap priorities and support safe deployment at scale.
- • Operate within OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineering team in London, working in a hybrid model (3 days in office per week) with up to 25% travel, supporting a mission-driven culture focused on responsible AI development and deployment.
- • Develop leadership and technical influence by codifying successful practices into tools and playbooks, mentoring engineers through actionable feedback, and shaping how OpenAI learns from field deployments to improve trust and durability of its systems.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of engineering or technical delivery experience, including 2+ years managing high-performing Forward Deployed or customer-facing engineers.
- • Proven ability to lead high-pressure technical projects from prototype to production in ambiguous, evolving environments.
- • Proficiency in writing and reviewing production-grade code using JavaScript or Python across frontend and backend systems.
- • Strong judgment in distinguishing actionable issues from noise, with urgency in escalating early indicators in product behavior, customer environments, or delivery practices.
- • Skill in translating field experience into sharp, actionable feedback for Product and Research teams to drive innovation and roadmap alignment.
- • Demonstrated ability to elevate team performance through clarity, trust, and calm leadership under pressure.
