  • • Blackbird Interactive, Inc., a forward-thinking independent game studio renowned for its diverse portfolio of world-class IPs and original creations across multiple genres, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Manager of Finance Operations & Compliance. This pivotal role is designed for an individual who thrives on establishing robust financial processes, ensuring impeccable compliance, and optimizing operational efficiency within a dynamic, remote-first environment. As a creative-fueled, future-driven organization, we empower our talent to build long-term careers, fostering growth and collaboration across our distributed team.
  • • The Manager of Finance Operations & Compliance will be instrumental in upholding the financial integrity and operational rigor of our finance department. This position uniquely blends core accounting oversight with a strong emphasis on financial compliance and sophisticated systems governance. You will be the architect of how financial data is captured, processed, and reported, ensuring seamless integration from project and operational teams into our accounting systems. Your primary objective will be to guarantee the accuracy, timeliness, and strict adherence to all relevant tax laws and regulatory mandates, safeguarding the company's financial health and reputation.
  • • Key responsibilities will include developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive financial policies and procedures that align with industry best practices and regulatory standards. You will oversee the day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions, ensuring their efficient and accurate execution. A significant part of your role will involve managing the month-end and year-end close processes, preparing financial statements, and providing insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • • Furthermore, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining strong internal controls to mitigate financial risks and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including tax legislation at federal, provincial, and municipal levels. This includes staying abreast of changes in financial regulations and implementing necessary adjustments to our processes and systems. You will also play a crucial role in managing relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial stakeholders, facilitating smooth audits and ensuring timely filing of all required reports.
  • • The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and a proven track record in financial compliance, particularly within the Canadian regulatory landscape. Experience with financial systems implementation and optimization will be highly valued, as you will be expected to leverage technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and concisely to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • • You will collaborate closely with various departments, including project management, legal, and HR, to ensure financial data accurately reflects operational activities and to support informed business decisions. This includes developing and refining budgeting processes, forecasting financial performance, and analyzing variances to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring that our financial operations scale effectively with the company's growth and evolving business needs.
  • • As a remote-first studio, Blackbird Interactive, Inc. offers a flexible and collaborative work environment. We are committed to providing our employees with the resources and support they need to succeed, fostering a culture of innovation, creativity, and continuous learning. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to make a significant impact on the financial foundation of a growing and exciting game development company, contributing directly to its long-term success and stability. We are looking for a leader who can bring structure, expertise, and a forward-thinking approach to our finance operations, ensuring we meet our financial obligations with precision and integrity while supporting our creative endeavors.
