- • As the Manager of Systems Engineering at Bullhorn, you will be a pivotal technical leader within the Technical Operations team, responsible for guiding a team of skilled systems engineers in the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and ongoing management of Bullhorn's production environment. This leadership role demands a blend of strategic vision, hands-on technical expertise, and exceptional people management skills, all aimed at ensuring the 24/7 availability, high performance, and scalability of our critical systems.
- • Your primary responsibility will be to lead, mentor, and develop a team of systems engineers, encompassing various experience levels from I through Senior III. This includes actively participating in hiring, onboarding, and retention strategies to cultivate a world-class systems engineering function that consistently meets and exceeds operational demands.
- • You will collaborate closely with senior leadership to define and execute a comprehensive systems engineering roadmap, ensuring its direct alignment with overarching business objectives and strategic goals. This involves translating business needs into actionable technical plans and driving their successful implementation.
- • A key focus of your role will be to champion and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This means identifying opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, bolster system reliability, and improve overall scalability through the adoption of best practices and innovative solutions.
- • You will be tasked with leading complex, cross-functional infrastructure projects from the initial planning stages through to successful execution. This requires strong project management capabilities and the ability to coordinate efforts across various departments.
- • Evaluating and implementing emerging technologies and tools will be crucial to staying ahead of the curve. You will identify and integrate solutions that can significantly improve team productivity, system performance, and the overall robustness of our infrastructure.
- • Ensuring the unwavering 24/7 availability of our production environments is paramount. This will involve effective team scheduling, robust incident response protocols, and meticulous on-call management to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity.
- • You will be accountable for driving key performance indicators (KPIs), including Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and system performance metrics, ensuring that the systems engineering team consistently meets its targets.
- • Leading major incident response efforts is a critical aspect of this role. You will guide the team through critical events, facilitate blameless postmortems, and ensure that lessons learned are translated into systemic improvements to prevent future occurrences.
- • Establishing and enforcing rigorous standards for documentation, runbooks, change management processes, and operational procedures is essential for maintaining a stable and well-understood production environment.
- • You will manage and nurture relationships with key cross-functional partners, including Development, Quality Assurance (QA), Customer Support, Professional Services, and Security teams, fostering a collaborative environment focused on shared success.
- • The role requires a strong understanding of SaaS architecture, multi-tenant environments, and the unique operational challenges of running production systems at scale, supporting a large customer base with extensive user activity.
- • You will leverage your expertise in Linux-based systems administration and ideally Windows Server environments, coupled with experience in public cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies like Kubernetes and Docker, along with scripting abilities in Python, PowerShell, or Bash, will be vital for automating and managing our infrastructure effectively.
- • Your ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business impacts and communicate them effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences will be a significant asset.
- • You will be expected to demonstrate a strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude, with the capacity to assess risks and make informed, data-driven decisions to optimize system performance and reliability.
- • Experience with automation, monitoring, and observability platforms (e.g., ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic) is essential for proactive system management and rapid issue resolution.
- • A solid grasp of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, and firewalls, is necessary for troubleshooting and maintaining a secure and performant network infrastructure.
- • You will embody Bullhorn's core values of Ownership, Energy, Speed & Agility, Service, and Being Human, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration within your team and across the organization.
