  • • Adyen is seeking a highly skilled and business-oriented financial services transactions lawyer to join its newly chartered Payment & Product Partnerships Counsel team in Singapore. This pivotal role is instrumental in building and scaling the legal framework for Adyen's most critical financial and technology infrastructure relationships, with a specific focus on partnerships within the dynamic APAC region. As a principal advisor, you will be at the forefront of shaping and managing complex agreements that underpin Adyen's innovative financial technology platform, serving global clients like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. This position offers a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of global financial services law, regulatory compliance, commercial strategy, and cutting-edge product innovation, contributing directly to Adyen's mission of engineering ambition and enabling businesses to achieve their goals faster.
  • • In this role, you will be deeply involved in the day-to-day operations of building and scaling Adyen's legal infrastructure for partnerships. Your responsibilities will include partnering closely with Adyen’s dedicated payment and product partnerships teams to cultivate, manage, and expand strategic relationships with key entities such as card networks, diverse payment methods providers, financial institutions, and other essential financial and technology partners. These collaborations are fundamental to supporting and enhancing Adyen’s sophisticated product and technical stack. A significant part of your work will involve structuring, meticulously drafting, and skillfully negotiating strategic infrastructure partnership agreements. These agreements are crucial for enabling and optimizing Adyen’s payment and financial products across its extensive network of markets in the Asia-Pacific region. You will also play a vital role in collaborating with a wide array of cross-functional teams, including product development, regulatory affairs, compliance, risk management, finance, and business partnerships. This collaborative effort ensures that all partner deals align seamlessly with Adyen’s established regulatory positions, robustly support ongoing product development initiatives, facilitate market expansion strategies, and effectively achieve overarching commercial objectives. Furthermore, you will provide expert counsel to stakeholders across the business, offering guidance on the operation and interpretation of partner agreements, including intricate scheme, network, and operating rules. This includes advising on the complex interdependencies within partner and regulatory ecosystems, and identifying corresponding risks and opportunities that could impact Adyen’s product roadmaps and go-to-market strategies. To further enhance efficiency and scalability, you will be instrumental in generating and maintaining essential documents and resources for partner engagements, such as form agreements, comprehensive position guides, and detailed implementation briefs, thereby streamlining deal cycles and supporting the products they enable. Your role will also necessitate staying abreast of the ever-evolving landscape of laws, regulations, and scheme and network rules that govern critical areas like bank-partner relationships, third-party service providers and outsourcing, data privacy and security, consumer protection in financial services, and marketing practices. Ultimately, you will build strong, trusted advisor relationships by delivering clear, practical, and actionable guidance, even in environments characterized by significant ambiguity or rapid industry evolution.
  • • The Payment & Product Partnerships Counsel team is a newly established and critical component within Adyen’s Regulatory organization. Its primary mandate is to construct and scale the legal and contractual framework that governs Adyen's most vital financial and technology infrastructure relationships. This team operates at the dynamic intersection of global financial services law and regulation, commercial strategy, and product innovation. The team is looking for a lawyer who is adept at leading complex deals for highly regulated products and who possesses a proactive, hands-on approach to tackling projects of varying scale and complexity. The company culture at Adyen is engineered for ambition, fostering an environment where individuals are empowered to succeed, supported by a culture that enables them to truly own their careers. Adyen is comprised of motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them collaboratively, delivering innovative and ethical solutions that accelerate business growth.
  • • In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop deep expertise in the legal and commercial intricacies of the payments and fintech industries within the APAC region. You will gain invaluable experience in structuring, negotiating, and managing complex, high-stakes partnership agreements that are critical to Adyen's global operations. You will hone your skills in cross-functional collaboration, working alongside product managers, engineers, risk officers, and compliance experts to navigate intricate regulatory landscapes and drive product innovation. Furthermore, you will have the chance to significantly influence Adyen's strategic partnerships and contribute to the company's continued growth and success in a rapidly evolving market. You will also develop a nuanced understanding of various financial services regulatory models and their practical application in commercial agreements, enhancing your ability to provide strategic legal advice.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 8+ years of experience as a qualified lawyer, with a significant portion gained in either in-house legal departments or law firms, specifically working on transactions with financial institutions or technology companies, and engaging with experienced legal counsel on the other side.
  • • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of financial services partnership transactions, particularly those involving regulated financial institutions collaborating with other parties (e.g., networks, fintechs, other financial institutions) to launch and operate integrated financial products or services, with a preference for experience in payment, credit, or lending products.
  • • Strong general contract law capabilities, with the ability to identify a wide spectrum of legal issues across various disciplines including contract, regulatory, intellectual property, and privacy law. Must be an adept drafter with a preference for clear, concise language and a seasoned lead negotiator capable of identifying, articulating, and persuasively resolving deal points based on practical, risk-based solutions, often in real-time.
  • • Excellent English-language communication skills, with the proven ability to translate complex legal and contractual concepts into easily understandable terms for technical teams and other non-legal audiences.
  • • A proactive and curious mindset, with a demonstrated enthusiasm for quickly self-educating on complex business models, technologies, and product use cases.
  • • Strong, risk-aware judgment, exceptional project management skills, and the proven ability to effectively manage competing priorities under demanding deadlines.
  • • Proficiency in Japanese and/or Mandarin Chinese is considered a strong advantage but is not a mandatory requirement.

  • • Engage in complex, cross-border transactions within the dynamic APAC region.
