Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end architecture, roadmap, and daily health of Customer.io’s revenue-critical systems—subscription management, usage metering, billing, invoicing, payments, revenue recognition, and the data pipelines that feed every financial report.
- • Partner with Finance, Sales, Customer Success, and Engineering to translate complex pricing models (usage-based tiers, add-ons, overages, discounts, multi-year contracts) into scalable, auditable system logic that can be deployed without downtime or manual work-arounds.
- • Lead a cross-functional pod of engineers, analysts, and revenue operations specialists; set sprint goals, run retros, and unblock technical debt so the team ships reliable, well-tested features every two weeks.
- • Design and enforce data-quality guardrails that guarantee 99.9 % accuracy for invoices, revenue schedules, and SaaS metrics (ARR, NRR, churn, LTV); surface anomalies in real time and own the root-cause analysis when something drifts.
- • Build integrations between our billing engine (Stripe, NetSuite, Salesforce CPQ, ChartMogul, and home-grown entitlement service) so new products can be priced, packaged, and launched in days—not months.
- • Create self-service dashboards and alerts that give Finance instant visibility into deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, and cash flow forecasts; eliminate the month-end scramble for spreadsheets.
- • Champion privacy, security, and compliance (SOC 2, GAAP, ASC 606) by embedding controls into code reviews, automated tests, and quarterly penetration tests.
- • Run A/B experiments on pricing pages, checkout flows, and dunning sequences; translate results into system changes that lift conversion rates and reduce involuntary churn.
- • Serve as the escalation point for billing-related support tickets; partner with Customer Success to craft clear, empathetic explanations that turn frustrated customers into promoters.
- • Mentor junior engineers and RevOps analysts; establish documentation standards, brown-bag sessions, and career ladders so the team grows faster than the business.
- • Evaluate new tools and vendors (usage-based billing platforms, payment gateways, revenue recognition engines) and present ROI analyses to the executive team.
- • Maintain a 24/7 on-call rotation with follow-the-sun coverage; own incident response, post-mortems, and long-term fixes that prevent repeat outages.
- • Translate regulatory changes (global tax rates, PSD2, India e-invoicing) into system requirements and deployment timelines that keep us compliant without slowing releases.
- • Present quarterly business reviews to the CFO and CEO, translating technical milestones into revenue impact, cost savings, and risk reduction.
- • Foster a remote-first culture that values asynchronous communication, written proposals, and inclusive decision-making across time zones from Tokyo to São Paulo.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years designing, building, and operating SaaS billing or revenue systems at scale (Stripe Billing, Zuora, Chargebee, or equivalent)
- • Deep fluency in SQL, REST APIs, and at least one backend language (Ruby, Go, Python, or Node) with a track record of shipping production-grade code
- • Proven ability to model complex pricing schemes and revenue recognition rules under ASC 606 / IFRS 15
- • Experience integrating ERP, CRM, and subscription data sources into a single source of truth
- • Nice-to-have: Certified NetSuite Administrator, Stripe Revenue Recognition, or dbt Analytics Engineering certification
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote, async culture with flexible working hours and a $2,000 home-office stipend
- • 20 days PTO plus local holidays, a 4-week paid sabbatical after 4 years, and a $1,000 annual travel credit
- • 100 % employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and 75 % for dependents
- • 12 weeks fully paid parental leave for all parents, plus gradual return-to-work schedule at full pay
