📋 Description

• As a Manager, Software Engineering at eHealthInsurance Services, Inc., you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next-generation health insurance marketplace experience, directly impacting how consumers access quality care through transparent, trustworthy digital and telephonic channels. Your leadership will bridge technical excellence with business outcomes, ensuring that engineering efforts align with eHealth’s mission to guide consumers through complex health insurance decisions with empathy and precision.
• You will lead a high-performing engineering team in delivering end-to-end solutions that span user experience, service layers, and partner integrations, driving innovation while maintaining rigorous standards for quality, security (including HIPAA compliance), and scalability across both online and telephonic platforms.
• You will operate as a hands-on engineering leader, splitting your time between technical execution (60%) and people management (40%), actively contributing to code, architecture, and system design while mentoring engineers, removing blockers, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement through AI-enabled practices, shift-left quality initiatives, and collaborative problem-solving.
• You will collaborate closely with Product Management, UX Design, Infrastructure, Security, and business stakeholders to prioritize work based on customer value and business impact, ensuring timely delivery of features that enhance user experience and operational efficiency across the full insurance lifecycle.
• You will champion engineering excellence by conducting code reviews, establishing technical documentation standards, leading root cause analyses for production issues, and promoting best practices in developer experience, testing (including unit testing), and process optimization to elevate team performance and code quality.
• You will nurture team growth through regular 1:1s, goal setting, feedback loops, and career development planning, creating an environment where engineers feel empowered to innovate, take ownership, and grow both technically and professionally while embodying eHealth’s core values of One Team, Customer Centricity, Innovation, Integrity, Quality, Accountability, Relentlessness, and Financial Stewardship.
• You will drive the adoption of AI technologies within your team to improve development velocity, code quality, and issue resolution speed, positioning the team at the forefront of technological advancement in health insurance technology.

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years of proven experience leading engineering teams in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep expertise in full-stack development
• Demonstrated experience leading consumer-facing engineering teams, particularly in complex, regulated domains like health insurance or eCommerce
• Strong technical background in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, ReactJS, VueJS, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and database technologies (Oracle, PostgreSQL)
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS or equivalent) and cloud-native architecture principles
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field
