📋 Description

  • Lead and execute Western Canada’s stakeholder engagement strategy for Abbott Diabetes Care, translating regional priorities into actionable plans that shape policy, strengthen partnerships, and drive business growth.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key external stakeholders including government ministries, health technology assessment (HTA) bodies, healthcare professionals (HCPs), key opinion leaders (KOLs), patient association groups (e.g., Breakthrough T1D, Diabetes Canada), and industry leaders.
  • Monitor political, economic, and social factors impacting public policy and provide insights to internal teams to inform company positions and advocacy efforts.
  • Design and implement integrated government relations strategies in Western Canada, managing external agencies, consultants, and budgets to advance business objectives.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Abbott Diabetes Care and government bodies, policy makers, HTA organizations, and patient associations, ensuring alignment of external activities with organizational goals.
  • Advocate for Abbott as a trusted industry leader by positively influencing the business environment through collaboration with public and private stakeholders.
  • Develop unique strategies to support market access for innovative diabetes care products, working closely with access and commercial teams to align messaging and create system-wide value.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and informed direction to internal functions on stakeholder engagement, public policy, and regulatory matters.
  • Manage multistakeholder projects with accountability for resource oversight, timeline adherence, and strategic alignment.
  • Deliver high-quality presentations and clear messaging to internal senior leadership and external stakeholders, demonstrating strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Maintain proactive work ethic by regularly updating stakeholders and advancing initiatives without prompting, ensuring continuous alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time to support stakeholder engagements, meetings, and advocacy activities.
  • Apply deep understanding of public policy, HTA processes, regulatory frameworks, and healthcare reimbursement systems within the Canadian provincial and national context.
  • Demonstrate proven leadership in managing complex stakeholder ecosystems within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industry.
  • Utilize PC tools including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel to prepare reports, presentations, and strategic documentation.
  • Operate as a self-starter with a track record of initiative, urgency, and adaptability in fast-paced, evolving policy environments.
  • Support Abbott Diabetes Care’s mission to improve health outcomes through life-changing glucose monitoring technologies by influencing policy and access pathways in Western Canada.

🎯 Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy, HTA, Clinical Epidemiology, Health Economics, Political Science, Communications, Business Administration, or Healthcare Management
  • Minimum five years of experience in stakeholder relations, government relations, public affairs, or external affairs within healthcare, medical device, or pharmaceutical industries
  • Proven success in engaging with government officials, HTA bodies, healthcare professionals, and patient association groups
  • Strong understanding of public policy, HTA, and regulatory environments in Canada
  • Demonstrated ability to manage external agencies, consultants, and budgets for multistakeholder advocacy projects
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time
