Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own end-to-end quality for Vapi’s product surface, which powers over 1 million daily voice calls for enterprise customers including Amazon, Intuit, and New York Life.
- • Build and deploy real voice assistants on the Vapi platform, executing live calls and simulations across integrations with LLMs, STT, TTS, and telephony providers to uncover edge cases and failure modes.
- • Design, write, and maintain automated end-to-end tests using Playwright (preferred) or equivalent frameworks like Cypress or Selenium to test the dashboard and core product features.
- • Ship your first Playwright tests within the first 30 days and contribute meaningfully to expanding the automated test suite against the assistant builder, simulations, monitoring, knowledge base, or versioning systems.
- • File detailed, hypothesis-driven bug reports with clear reproduction steps and impact assessments, ensuring engineers can quickly validate and fix issues.
- • Partner directly with engineers during feature design to influence test strategy before development begins, embedding QA early in the product lifecycle.
- • Use AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) to accelerate test creation, regression coverage, and scenario generation, and articulate where these tools add value or introduce risk.
- • Operate as a full peer to engineers by the 90-day mark, owning QA across the entire product surface without handholding or oversight.
- • Identify gaps in test coverage, prioritize them based on customer impact, and implement improvements that increase system reliability and reduce production incidents.
- • Extend Vapi’s testing practices by introducing new patterns, documentation, or methodologies that are adopted team-wide and scale with the platform.
- • Test non-deterministic systems where outcomes vary across LLM responses, real-time audio streams, and distributed API interactions — where “correct” behavior is probabilistic, not binary.
- • Maintain deep customer empathy by continuously evaluating the product through the lens of real user experience, not just technical compliance.
- • Work in a fast-paced, ambiguity-rich environment typical of a Series B startup, adapting quickly to shifting priorities and evolving product scope.
- • Contribute to release testing for major product areas, earning the trust of engineers to gate deployments based on your QA signal.
- • Engage with developer-facing components including APIs, SDKs, and dashboards, understanding how technical users interact with and depend on Vapi’s platform.
- • Document test plans, automation workflows, and quality metrics that support transparency and continuous improvement across engineering and product teams.
- • Be involved in new feature development from inception, ensuring quality is designed in, not tested after.
- • Actively improve the automation suite’s breadth and reliability over time, with measurable growth in coverage under your ownership.
- • Represent the voice of the customer in internal discussions, advocating for reliability, consistency, and usability in every product change.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years in QA, SDET, Test Engineering, or product engineering with a strong testing focus.
- • Hands-on experience with at least one modern e2e framework — Playwright preferred; Cypress, Selenium, or equivalent acceptable.
- • Proficiency in reading and writing TypeScript/JavaScript to extend test suites and file bugs with attached hypotheses.
- • Proven track record testing complex, distributed systems with real failure modes (e.g., APIs, integrations, real-time behavior, non-deterministic systems).
- • Daily use of AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) with informed opinions on their utility and limitations in testing workflows.
- • Self-directed mindset: ability to explore products, analyze PRs, and identify bugs without waiting for formal specs.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and excellent equity ownership.
- • Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision plans.
- • Flexible time off: take what you need.
- • $10,000 annual learning and development budget.
- • Catered meals, transportation assistance, and gym benefits.
- • Quarterly team off-sites and a culture of camaraderie.
