  • • Join Ciena Corporation, a global leader in high-speed connectivity, as a Metro Field Technician and play a pivotal role in maintaining and expanding our cutting-edge optical and power networks. This is a hands-on opportunity to work with advanced technology in dynamic, live network environments, ensuring the seamless delivery of services to our valued customers.
  • • As a Metro Field Technician, you will be instrumental in the physical implementation of network infrastructure. Your responsibilities will encompass the precise addition and removal of critical equipment, including optical, DCN (Data Communications Network), and power systems, across both live and non-live network segments.
  • • You will be expected to meticulously read and interpret complex technical documentation, such as Engineering Design Packages (EDPs), Visio drawings, and Methods of Procedure (MoPs), to ensure accurate and efficient execution of tasks.
  • • A significant aspect of this role involves performing essential fiber optic work. This includes running, cleaning, removing, and terminating fiber optic patch cords to Fiber Distribution Panels (FDPs), ensuring optimal signal integrity and network performance.
  • • You will also be responsible for executing DC power cabling and performing work on live -48V DC systems, a critical component of telecommunications infrastructure. This includes the installation and removal of rectifiers and Power Distribution Units (PDUs).
  • • The role requires you to conduct basic testing of installed hardware to verify functionality and performance, and to meticulously complete all associated documentation in a timely and accurate manner, contributing to our comprehensive record-keeping.
  • • Maintaining a safe and organized work environment is paramount. You will ensure that job sites are clean, secure, and adequately stocked with all necessary materials and tools, adhering to the highest safety standards.
  • • You will participate in on-site audits and quality inspections, and may also conduct virtual audits, to ensure adherence to Ciena's rigorous quality and safety protocols.
  • • Safe operation of company or rented vehicles is a key responsibility, along with strict adherence to all safety and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protocols to protect sensitive equipment and personnel.
  • • Effective communication is vital. You will need to liaise clearly and professionally with site leads, project managers, remote testers, and customers, providing updates and resolving issues as they arise.
  • • This role demands a high degree of physical capability. You will be required to regularly lift 40+ pounds and be comfortable with climbing ladders to access equipment.
  • • The successful candidate must be prepared for considerable overtime, potentially exceeding 50 hours per week, including travel time, depending on project demands and travel schedules. Overtime pay will be provided in accordance with federal and state labor laws.
  • • You will be part of a collaborative, high-performance team that deeply values safety, quality, and a strong sense of ownership. This is an ideal position for an individual who thrives on travel, enjoys solving technical challenges, and is motivated to make a tangible impact on a daily basis.
  • • Ciena fosters a people-first culture, prioritizing a flexible work environment that empowers individual growth, well-being, and belonging. We are a technology company that leads with our humanity, driving business priorities alongside meaningful social, community, and societal impact.
  • • This role offers the opportunity to work with some of the most advanced optical and power equipment in the industry, contributing directly to the backbone of global communication networks.
  • • You will gain invaluable experience in network infrastructure deployment and maintenance, working across diverse customer sites and network configurations.
  • • The role is remote within the US, with extensive travel required, offering a unique opportunity to see different parts of the country while advancing your technical career.
