- • At Valon, we are revolutionizing the mortgage industry through a cutting-edge, technology-driven approach to both servicing and direct lending. As a rapidly growing company backed by prominent investors like Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and managing over $130 billion in loans, we are building our platforms from the ground up, eschewing outdated legacy systems for a modern, AI-native operating system. This allows us to deliver unparalleled transparency, efficiency, and care to homeowners, lenders, and investors alike. Our mission is to simplify, secure, and financially empower every homeowner by transforming the mortgage experience.
- • The Escrow Administration team at Valon is a critical component of this mission, meticulously managing all homeowner escrow obligations, including taxes, Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI), property insurance, and accurate Escrow Analysis. We are a group of passionate, critical thinkers who thrive on navigating the multifaceted escrow sector within a dynamic, technology and operations-focused business. Our commitment extends beyond ensuring the accuracy of escrow accounts; we diligently monitor the performance of our outsourced vendors and are unwavering in our dedication to meeting all Government-Sponsored Enterprise (GSE) requirements.
- • In this pivotal role as a Mortgage Hazard Insurance Specialist, you will be at the forefront of safeguarding our mortgage portfolio. Your primary responsibility will be to meticulously monitor, verify, and maintain the accuracy of property hazard insurance coverage for all mortgaged properties. This ensures that every policy not only meets stringent investor guidelines, such as those set by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, and VA, but also complies with all regulatory mandates. By proactively managing insurance coverage, you will play a crucial role in mitigating risk across our extensive servicing portfolio and will be instrumental in providing exceptional customer service to our borrowers, insurance agents, and internal teams.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass a wide range of essential tasks. You will be tasked with diligently monitoring insurance coverage across our entire mortgage portfolio, ensuring continuous compliance with investor guidelines. This involves the thorough review and verification of hazard insurance documents, confirming their completeness, accuracy, and that coverage amounts are appropriate and sufficient. You will also be responsible for tracking and processing insurance renewals, cancellations, and reinstatements, ensuring no gaps in coverage occur. A key aspect of this role is the timely disbursement of hazard insurance premiums directly from borrower escrow accounts.
- • Furthermore, you will expertly coordinate the implementation of force-placed insurance when borrower-provided coverage lapses, always ensuring strict adherence to all applicable laws and regulations. You will serve as a primary point of contact for borrowers, addressing their inquiries regarding insurance coverage, premium disbursements, and the intricacies of their escrow accounts with clarity and empathy. Building and maintaining strong relationships with insurance companies, agents, and third-party vendors will be essential for resolving discrepancies and ensuring our records are consistently up-to-date.
- • Maintaining meticulous records of all insurance policies and diligently tracking their status within our advanced servicing system is paramount. Your accurate data will directly support the critical escrow analysis process, providing the most current and reliable insurance premium information. You will also collaborate closely with our Loss Draft and Claims departments to effectively manage and resolve insurance claim-related issues, ensuring a seamless experience for our borrowers during challenging times. As needed, you will actively assist in internal and external audits and contribute to regulatory reporting requirements, demonstrating Valon's commitment to compliance and operational excellence.
- • This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a fast-scaling company that is not just reshaping mortgage servicing and lending but is building the future of regulated finance. You will be part of a team that values innovation, collaboration, and making a tangible impact on the homeowner journey. If you are detail-oriented, possess a strong understanding of property insurance within the mortgage context, and are eager to grow your career in a dynamic, tech-forward environment, this is the perfect opportunity for you.
🎯 Requirements
- • At least 1 year of work experience in a professional environment (e.g., customer service, administrative support, insurance, banking, or real estate).
- • Familiarity with escrow accounts and lender-placed insurance processes.
- • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- • Proficient with Google Suite.
- • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- • Ability to prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and 401k plan.
- • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits.
- • Generous time off: 17 days paid time off, sick days, and 11 company holidays.
- • 12 weeks of fully paid baby bonding time for both birthing and non-birthing parents.
