Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own and build Pulley’s company narrative — the simplest, most credible version of its story — ensuring all decks, pitches, and one-pagers are anchored to this core messaging spine.
- • Write original, high-impact long-form content including founder POV pieces, keynote ghostwriting, LinkedIn essays, and case studies with creative input — not repurposed blog posts, but work that earns attention and is referenced or saved.
- • Design and maintain narrative frameworks, naming conventions, and story arcs for products and initiatives, creating living proof banks of case studies, outcomes, and "why we built this" artifacts that compound over time.
- • Produce and own primary company assets including the flagship company deck, one-pagers, scripts, and web narratives — end-to-end ownership of the messaging framework.
- • Lead multimedia storytelling direction for podcasts, video, and other formats — set the creative bar and own the output, even if not producing all content personally.
- • Define and uphold Pulley’s editorial voice and taste — be the standard-bearer for quality, ensuring every piece of public-facing content is work the company is proud to ship.
- • Partner directly with founders, GTM, product, and operations teams to distill complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives that make technical and operational realities legible to broader audiences.
- • Serve as a thought partner to leadership on narrative strategy, helping shape how customers, partners, press, and the market understand what Pulley is building and why it matters.
- • Translate deep, technical problem spaces — such as permitting across 19,000+ jurisdictions, AI-powered infrastructure, and commercial construction workflows — into narratives that feel inevitable and engaging to general audiences.
- • Synthesize insights from 90-minute founder conversations into drafts that surprise and accurately capture intent, demonstrating strong collaboration and intellectual precision.
- • Build narrative systems from scratch as the first hire in this function, with broad exposure across the company and direct influence on brand perception and market positioning.
- • Publish consistently beyond LinkedIn — through Substack, Medium, Twitter/X, YouTube, newsletters, or blogs — driven by original thought and a desire to contribute meaningfully to public discourse.
- • Bring non-traditional background: prior experience as a journalist, operator, essayist, or builder with a strong public body of work, not a linear content marketing career path.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong writing ability evidenced by a portfolio of work that people forward, reference, or save
- • Intellectual curiosity and real operating experience inside a business, with understanding of how things are actually built
- • Non-traditional background such as former journalist, operator who writes, essayist with startup experience, or smart builder with public work
- • Active publishing presence beyond LinkedIn (e.g., Substack, Medium, Twitter/X, YouTube, newsletter, blog)
- • Ability to distill complex, technical domains into compelling narratives for general audiences
- • Synthesis and collaboration skills to transform founder conversations into accurate, surprising, and high-quality drafts
🏖️ Benefits
- • Opportunity to define and build the narrative function from scratch as the first hire
- • Direct partnership with founders and cross-functional leadership on high-impact company strategy
- • Exposure to major commercial projects including J.Crew, Solidcore, Hibbett Sports, data centers, and EV charging networks
- • Work at a backed startup (CRV, Susa Ventures, Fifth Wall) with leadership from Plaid, Segment, ServiceTitan, and Procore
