- • Serve as the onboard expert and specialist in ornithology for expedition cruises, delivering accurate, engaging, and scientifically grounded interpretations of bird species, habitats, and behaviors observed during voyages.
- • Design and deliver daily educational presentations, including pre-landing briefings, onboard lectures, and evening recaps focused exclusively on avian ecology, migration patterns, and conservation status across expedition regions.
- • Conduct in-the-field birding excursions and interpretive walks, guiding guests through identification, behavior observation, and ecological context using binoculars, field guides, and audio recordings.
- • Collaborate with other field staff to integrate ornithological content into the broader natural history itinerary, ensuring seamless alignment with marine biology, geology, and cultural narratives.
- • Maintain detailed observational logs of bird sightings, including species, numbers, behaviors, and environmental conditions, contributing to expedition data collection and scientific documentation.
- • Engage with guests during meals, social events, and informal interactions to foster meaningful conversations about birds, conservation, and expedition experiences, maintaining a welcoming and professional demeanor.
- • Adapt content and delivery style to diverse guest backgrounds, from novice birders to seasoned ornithologists, ensuring accessibility without compromising scientific rigor.
- • Uphold safety protocols during shore excursions and Zodiac operations, particularly in remote or sensitive bird habitats, and assist in minimizing human impact on nesting and feeding areas.
- • Participate in pre-voyage training and orientation, reviewing itineraries, regional bird lists, and conservation guidelines to ensure preparedness for each cruise segment.
- • Work in a multi-national, close-quarters environment aboard expedition ships, maintaining professionalism, flexibility, and cultural sensitivity while living and working alongside crew and guests for extended periods.
- • Be available for contract periods of minimum 3–5 weeks, with variable daily hours dictated by expedition schedule, weather, and wildlife activity, including early mornings and late evenings.
- • Represent Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic with integrity, embodying the brand’s commitment to responsible exploration and environmental stewardship.

- • Demonstrated expertise in ornithology with professional experience identifying and studying bird species in the wild
- • Proven experience working in the expedition cruising industry
- • Ability to deliver engaging, accurate, and science-based presentations to diverse audiences
- • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with guests in close quarters
- • Willingness to work extended contract periods (3–5 weeks minimum) with irregular hours
- • Valid passport and ability to travel internationally to remote destinations
