Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As an Occupational Math Tutor at xAI Corporation, you will play a critical role in advancing the company’s mission to build AI systems that understand the universe by providing high-quality, domain-specific mathematical annotations and evaluations that directly train and refine AI models in real-world occupational contexts.
- • Your work will ensure that xAI’s AI technologies can accurately interpret and apply mathematical reasoning in fields such as finance, insurance, logistics, skilled trades, healthcare, and accounting — bridging the gap between theoretical math and practical, industry-specific problem-solving.
- • Day to day, you will use proprietary xAI tools to label, evaluate, and annotate complex datasets focused on occupational math applications, ensuring data quality and relevance for model training.
- • You will design, select, and refine annotation tasks grounded in real-world scenarios, including insurance risk modeling (premiums, deductibles, expected loss), logistics optimization (inventory, throughput, cost analysis), skilled trades calculations (surveying, electrical loads, machining tolerances, blueprint scaling), financial mathematics (loan amortization, time value of money, portfolio metrics), accounting and tax procedures (financial statements, depreciation, payroll, multi-bracket taxes), and health/social data analysis (rates, ratios, biostatistics, survey-based indicators).
- • You will provide detailed, step-by-step solutions to math problems and rigorously evaluate AI-generated responses for correctness, adherence to domain-specific rules (e.g., tax codes, building codes, regulatory constraints), clarity, and plausibility, offering constructive feedback to improve model performance.
- • You will collaborate closely with engineers and AI researchers to interpret task requirements, refine workflows, and improve tooling based on your domain expertise, contributing to the iterative development of more effective AI training pipelines.
- • You will interpret and execute complex instructions autonomously, leveraging strong analytical and organizational skills to manage ambiguous or incomplete information while maintaining high standards of precision and consistency.
- • You will continuously strengthen your ability to navigate technical resources, databases, and reference materials to validate mathematical approaches and ensure alignment with industry best practices.
- • About the team or company: xAI is a small, highly motivated, and intensely curious organization dedicated to engineering excellence and scientific discovery, operating with a flat structure where initiative and impact are rewarded with leadership opportunities.
- • The company values hands-on contribution, strong communication, and a relentless drive to solve hard problems — creating an environment where your expertise in applied math will directly influence cutting-edge AI development.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in applying mathematical concepts to real-world occupational challenges, gaining rare experience at the intersection of domain-specific knowledge and artificial intelligence.
- • You will develop valuable skills in AI data curation, model evaluation, and cross-functional collaboration with engineers — positioning yourself at the forefront of how human expertise shapes the next generation of intelligent systems.
🎯 Requirements
- • A Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Finance, Actuarial Science, or a closely related discipline with strong training in applied/occupational math; OR a Bachelor’s degree in one of these fields plus 2+ years of professional experience in a math-heavy occupational domain (e.g., finance, banking, insurance, accounting, logistics, healthcare analytics, or policy analysis).
- • Professional licensure or certification in a skilled trade (e.g., licensed surveyor, master electrician, journeyman machinist) with demonstrated expertise in trade-specific mathematical calculations.
- • Strong proficiency in applied mathematics relevant to at least one of the following domains: probability and statistics, financial math, optimization under constraints, geometric and measurement calculations, or similar.
- • Proficiency in reading and writing in both informal and professional English, with outstanding communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational capabilities.
- • Solid reading comprehension skills combined with the capacity to exercise autonomous judgment when working with limited data or ambiguous instructions.
- • A strong passion for and commitment to technological advancements and innovation, particularly in the context of AI and knowledge systems.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive hourly compensation for US-based candidates ranging from $45/hour to $75/hour, based on experience, skills, education, location, and qualifications.
- • For eligible US-based positions: access to health insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, and paid sick leave, with specific details provided during the interview process.
- • Fully remote work flexibility from any location worldwide, subject to legal eligibility and time-zone compatibility, allowing you to contribute from wherever you are most productive.
- • For contractor roles: complete autonomy to set your own hours and workload, with no fixed commitments — ideal for those seeking flexible, project-based engagement.
- • Opportunity to work with cutting-edge AI technology and contribute directly to the training of models that aim to understand complex real-world systems.
- • Exposure to a high-impact, mission-driven culture at xAI where curiosity, initiative, and excellence are valued and rewarded.
