📋 Description

• The Onboarding Risk Team Lead at Paddle plays a critical role in safeguarding the company’s payment infrastructure by leading a team responsible for evaluating prospective SaaS suppliers and monitoring high-risk accounts during onboarding. This role ensures that Paddle maintains exceptional risk standards, compliance, and operational integrity as a Merchant of Record for thousands of global software sellers.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include managing daily operations of the Onboarding Risk team by coordinating workflows, ensuring timely task completion, and optimizing resource allocation for efficiency and compliance; growing and developing the team through recruitment, coaching, mentorship, and training to foster continuous professional growth and positivity; supporting complex applications and decision-making by providing expert guidance, reviewing high-stakes scenarios, and collaborating to resolve challenges while minimizing risk; documenting, maintaining, and improving procedures to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with evolving standards and best practices; building internal and external relationships through networking, stakeholder engagement, and cross-departmental collaboration to enhance information sharing and strategic alignment; and overseeing risk management activities such as identifying emerging threats, implementing mitigation strategies, and monitoring risk exposure to protect organizational objectives.
• The Onboarding Risk team operates within Paddle’s broader Risk function, collaborating closely with Legal & Compliance, Customer Support, Operations, and Product teams to drive improvements in risk processes. As a Merchant of Record serving over 5,000 software sellers across 245 territories, Paddle relies on this team to maintain trust, safety, and compliance in its payment infrastructure, which is backed by major investors including KKR, FTV Capital, Kindred, Notion, and 83North.
• In this role, you will develop advanced leadership and risk management expertise in a fast-paced FinTech environment, gain deep exposure to SaaS, e-commerce, and emerging risks like Generative AI, and strengthen your ability to make sound judgment calls under uncertainty. You will also build experience in process optimization, cross-functional leadership, and compliance-driven innovation while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and psychological safety.

🎯 Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in risk, financial crime, or payments teams, ideally within Merchant Acquiring, E-Commerce, or FinTech
• 2+ years of experience in team leadership or people management
• Familiarity with risks specific to software, SaaS, and Generative AI environments
• Excellent communication skills and comfort working across multiple time zones
• Positive attitude, solution-oriented mindset, and ability to thrive in fast-paced, uncertain environments
