  • • As an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS), formerly Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR), at Health Catalyst, you will play a pivotal role in driving significant, measurable improvements within healthcare organizations by ensuring the accuracy and reliability of critical oncology data.
  • • You will be instrumental in supporting oncology service lines and administrative decision-making through meticulous data acquisition and analysis, directly contributing to Health Catalyst's mission of being a catalyst for massive, data-informed healthcare improvement.
  • • A core responsibility involves performing comprehensive data collection, coding, and abstracting functions, adhering strictly to established guidelines and licensure requirements to maintain the integrity of cancer registries.
  • • You will be entrusted with maintaining robust audit and quality assurance processes, covering case findings, abstracting, coding, follow-up procedures, data processing, and analysis, ensuring the highest standards of data quality.
  • • This role requires proactive management of follow-up surveys, updating patient information within the registry by liaising with physicians, clinics, hospital records, patients, and their families, ensuring a complete and up-to-date patient history.
  • • You will be responsible for responding to requests for registry data, efficiently extracting information from assigned company facility databases, and generating necessary reports to meet stakeholder needs.
  • • Overseeing the processes for, or directly submitting, data to state laws and accrediting agencies is a key function, ensuring compliance and regulatory adherence.
  • • A significant aspect of the role involves compiling and preparing all required and requested reports, special studies, and surveys mandated by clients, state authorities, or accrediting bodies.
  • • You will maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of cancer treatment, research, and Cancer Registry requirements, serving as a subject matter expert and providing guidance on interpreting the COC (Commission on Cancer) Cancer Program Standards and evaluating compliance.
  • • For those in leadership capacities within this role, responsibilities may extend to managing and/or conducting the hiring and training of new team members, fostering a skilled and engaged team.
  • • You will actively support team members in their professional development and growth opportunities, with a continuous focus on enhancing team member engagement and satisfaction.
  • • Developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures will be crucial for optimizing departmental operations and ensuring consistency.
  • • Creating and monitoring productivity standards for your team, employing a data-driven approach to understand average cost per case and clearly communicating abstraction best practices to minimize variation in average time per case, is essential for operational efficiency.
  • • Coaching, counseling, and disciplining team members in accordance with established policies and procedures will be part of managing team performance.
  • • You will direct the workflow of department staff, providing leadership assistance to achieve optimal operational, financial, and customer service outcomes, ensuring the team functions cohesively and effectively.
  • • Maintaining current Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification through the completion of required continuing education is a fundamental requirement of the position.

  • • Adherence to Information Security and Compliance responsibilities, including training directives, Acceptable Use Policy, and HIPAA Privacy and Security, is mandatory to safeguard information assets and report potential security events.
