Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the revenue-cycle heartbeat of Saint Luke’s 18-hospital network as a Patient Accounts Representative. You will be the critical link between clinical services and financial health, ensuring every patient encounter is accurately translated into a clean, compliant, and collectible claim.
- • Master the art of claim-editing by dissecting 277 EDI rejections, NCCI edits, bundling rules, and incidentals-inclusive logic. You’ll spot patterns others miss, correct coding errors before they reach payors, and prevent denials that cost millions.
- • Investigate insurance coverage gaps in real time—verifying benefits, identifying policy changes, and resubmitting corrected claims within payer filing limits. Your detective work turns denied dollars into recovered revenue.
- • Draft persuasive, policy-backed appeal letters that compel insurers to overturn denials. You’ll cite clinical documentation, reference payer contracts, and escalate strategically when medical necessity is questioned.
- • Serve as the go-to escalation point for Customer Service when patients call about baffling billing codes. You’ll translate complex jargon into compassionate explanations while simultaneously fixing the underlying claim issue.
- • Partner with Coding, HIM, Patient Access, and clinical departments to close documentation gaps, correct charge entry errors, and implement front-end process fixes that stop denials before they start.
- • Post payments, adjustments, and refunds with precision, ensuring every penny is allocated correctly and every patient balance is either collected or routed to financial-assistance pathways.
- • Build payment plans and screen patients for charity care or Medicaid eligibility, safeguarding access to care while protecting the organization’s financial integrity.
- • Become the resident subject-matter expert on payer policy changes—Medicare, Medicaid, commercial, and employer plans. You’ll translate new rules into actionable workflows and train peers on emerging requirements.
- • Identify recurring denial trends and partner with IT to configure software edits that auto-correct common errors, driving continuous improvement across the revenue cycle.
- • Enjoy a flexible Monday–Friday schedule (6:00 AM–6:00 PM) that lets you balance life in the Kansas City metro while delivering world-class support to patients and providers.
- • Thrive in a faith-based, nonprofit environment where 12,000 colleagues share a mission: “The best place to get care. The best place to give care.” Your work directly funds life-saving technology, community outreach, and charity care initiatives.
🎯 Requirements
- • 1+ year of hands-on medical billing, claims editing, or insurance follow-up experience in a hospital, clinic, or revenue-cycle vendor setting
- • Demonstrated proficiency with NCCI edits, CPT/ICD-10 codes, modifiers, bundling rules, and 277/837 EDI transactions
- • High-school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in health information, business, or related field preferred
- • Advanced Excel skills and experience with Epic, Cerner, or comparable EHR/billing systems
- • Ability to craft clear, concise appeal letters and communicate effectively with payors, clinicians, and patients
🏖️ Benefits
- • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans starting day one, plus flexible spending and HSA options
- • Up to 100% tuition reimbursement for job-related degrees and certifications, fueling lifelong learning
- • Generous PTO, paid holidays, and leave-of-absence programs that support work-life balance and family needs
- • 403(b) retirement plan with employer match and financial-planning resources to secure your future
- • Employee Assistance Program, wellness incentives, and spiritual-care resources rooted in Saint Luke’s faith-based mission
