đź“‹ Description
- • As an AI Tutor - Physics Specialist at xAI Corporation, you will play a critical role in advancing the company’s mission to build AI systems that understand the universe by providing expert-level physics knowledge to train and refine cutting-edge AI models. Your work directly contributes to improving model performance in scientific reasoning, enabling breakthroughs in AI-driven discovery and innovation.
- • You will collaborate closely with xAI’s technical team to curate, label, and validate high-quality physics data across text, voice, and video formats, ensuring that AI systems learn from accurate, expert-generated inputs that reflect real-world complexity and depth.
- • Day to day, you will use proprietary annotation software to label complex physics problems, refine training datasets, and provide detailed solutions that guide AI model learning in specialized domains such as quantum mechanics, condensed matter, high-energy physics, and computational physics.
- • You will actively participate in improving annotation tools by collaborating with engineers to suggest enhancements based on your subject-matter expertise, ensuring the tools are intuitive, efficient, and capable of handling advanced physics concepts.
- • You will select and solve challenging problems from advanced physics subfields—such as quantum computing, nuclear physics, or mathematical physics—where your expertise allows you to evaluate AI-generated responses for accuracy, completeness, and scientific rigor.
- • You will interpret evolving instructions, adapt to shifting project priorities, and execute tasks autonomously with strong judgment, even when working with incomplete or ambiguous data, demonstrating initiative and intellectual flexibility.
- • You will contribute to the training of new AI tasks by identifying edge cases, generating counterexamples, and providing nuanced explanations that help models generalize beyond rote learning to true conceptual understanding.
- • You will engage in iterative feedback loops with technical staff, refining both data quality and model behavior through continuous analysis of AI outputs and expert corrections.
- • You will operate within xAI’s flat, mission-driven culture where initiative is rewarded, communication is paramount, and every team member is expected to contribute directly to the company’s goal of accelerating human understanding of the universe through AI.
- • The team at xAI is small, highly motivated, and composed of engineers and researchers who value curiosity, technical excellence, and hands-on problem-solving—offering you a unique opportunity to work alongside world-class talent in an environment that prioritizes impact over hierarchy.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in AI alignment and scientific data curation, gaining rare experience at the intersection of theoretical physics and machine learning—skills that are increasingly valuable in both academia and industry.
- • You will develop proficiency in advanced data annotation workflows, AI training pipelines, and cross-functional collaboration with engineers, positioning you at the forefront of AI-for-science innovation and opening pathways to future roles in AI research, technical leadership, or specialized AI training.
🎯 Requirements
- • Master’s or PhD in physics or a highly related field (e.g., condensed matter, high energy, quantum computing, computational, or mathematical physics).
- • Expertise in one or more physics subdomains, with demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and provide detailed, accurate solutions in text, voice, or video formats.
- • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English, capable of conveying nuanced scientific concepts clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences.
- • Strong proficiency in navigating scientific databases, online resources, and information systems to gather, verify, and synthesize physics knowledge efficiently.
- • Proven ability to work autonomously with sound judgment, interpret evolving instructions, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- • Solid passion for technological innovation and a commitment to advancing AI’s capacity to understand and contribute to scientific discovery.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive hourly compensation ranging from $45 to $75 per hour for U.S.-based candidates, based on experience, skills, education, and location.
- • Access to comprehensive benefits for eligible U.S.-based employees, including health insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, and paid sick leave (details provided during interview process).
- • Fully remote work flexibility, allowing you to contribute from any location worldwide, subject to legal eligibility and time-zone compatibility.
- • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI projects that directly influence the development of models capable of scientific reasoning and discovery.
- • Collaboration with a small, elite team of engineers and researchers at xAI, fostering mentorship, intellectual growth, and high-impact contributions.
- • Flexibility in employment structure—full-time, part-time, or contractor roles considered based on candidate fit and project needs.
