📋 Description

• As a Principal Engineer - Data & AI at Smartsheet Inc., you will lead the design and evolution of scalable, secure, and high-performance data platforms that power AI/ML capabilities across a global enterprise SaaS product, directly enabling teams to unlock insights and automate complex workflows.
• Day to day, you will architect data pipelines and storage solutions, develop and govern data models, optimize system performance, troubleshoot complex data issues, implement security and compliance controls, and drive innovation in AI/ML Ops using Databricks, MLFlow, Unity Catalog, and related technologies while collaborating with product engineering teams.
• You will join Smartsheet’s India Global Capability Center, a best-in-class innovation hub leading global product development and enterprise capabilities, where you’ll work across multidisciplinary teams to solve large-scale data challenges in a fast-growing, high-impact environment.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in modern AI infrastructure, petabyte-scale data systems, and cloud-native platforms, while influencing technical strategy, mentoring peers, and advancing engineering excellence in a culture that values ownership, innovation, and impact.

🎯 Requirements

• In-depth experience designing systems involving petabytes of data using Databricks Lakehouse
• Hands-on experience with AI/MLOps workflows on Databricks, MLFlow, Mosaic AI Agent Framework, Unity Catalog, Vector Search, and Knowledge Graph
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and exposure to Java or Scala, along with modern software engineering practices including Kubernetes, CI/CD, IaC (preferably Terraform), and observability
