• As a Principal Full Stack Engineer in our Paris office, you will be an integral part of a small, high-performing engineering and product team. You will have the unique opportunity to collaborate directly with the founding team, influencing product vision and architecting the technical backbone of our platform from day one. This role is for someone who thrives on building technology that solves real-world customer problems and has a tangible impact.
• Your responsibilities will span the entire product development lifecycle. You will contribute to ideation, design intuitive and performant web interfaces tailored for business owners in Africa, develop robust backend logic, manage deployment processes, and actively gather and incorporate user feedback. This end-to-end involvement ensures that the technology we build directly addresses customer needs and business objectives.
• A key aspect of this role is driving architectural decisions to ensure our platform scales effectively and maintains high standards of quality. You will proactively identify opportunities to improve scalability, enhance observability, and promote modularity within our codebase. This includes championing code quality through comprehensive testing strategies, thorough documentation, and rigorous code reviews, ensuring a maintainable and robust system.
• In this position, you will be instrumental in implementing and upholding IT security and data protection best practices, especially critical within a regulated financial environment. Your expertise will help safeguard sensitive data and ensure compliance, building trust with our users and partners.
• Beyond technical contributions, you will also play a significant role in operational excellence. This involves identifying and automating internal non-tech processes, contributing to our best practices to boost output and efficiency, and confidently handling production incidents when they arise. Your proactive approach will help streamline operations and maintain system stability.
• Leadership and mentorship are core components of this Principal Engineer role. You will mentor junior engineers, fostering their professional growth through pairing sessions, constructive code reviews, and consistent feedback. You will also represent the engineering team in cross-functional discussions with departments like Finance, Operations, and Senior Leadership, translating business goals into actionable technical plans.
• You will be a champion for technical excellence and a positive team culture. This includes setting and upholding high standards for communication, collaboration, and technical best practices within the engineering team. Your ability to communicate effectively, both internally and externally, will be crucial for explaining new features, gathering pre-implementation feedback, and articulating technical solutions to diverse audiences.
• We are looking for individuals with a strong product mindset, who are driven by empathy and curiosity to understand customer challenges deeply. The creativity to build elegant solutions that balance impact, effort, and user delight is essential. You will be working with a tech stack including Typescript, React, NextJS, NodeJS, Express, and PostgreSQL, and will be comfortable navigating the fast-paced, high-growth environment of an early-stage startup.

🎯 Requirements

• Strong product mindset with a customer-centric approach, understanding business impact and long-term implications of technical decisions.
• Proven experience in full-stack web development, with a deep understanding of frontend and backend best practices, primarily within JavaScript technologies (Typescript, React, NextJS, NodeJS, Express).
• Experience working in a high-growth, VC-backed startup environment, contributing to the entire product development lifecycle and comfortable with ambiguity.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Passion for Capi's mission to solve the financial challenges faced by African businesses and a desire to contribute to financial inclusion.
• Based in London or Paris, with a willingness to work hybrid (3 days/week in the Paris office).
