Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own and drive Kin’s design token architecture across color, typography, spacing, and motion, establishing primitive, semantic, and component tokens as the single source of truth for design and code.
- • Audit existing component libraries and live product experiences using AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) to map gaps, drift, and inconsistencies, generating a data-backed plan to unify and streamline the design system.
- • Establish and maintain Figma-to-code parity by partnering with engineering on the pipeline from design tokens to implemented, documented components.
- • Introduce new components and patterns thoughtfully as Kin expands into new product domains (e.g., auto insurance, flood insurance, home financing), ensuring the system grows with intention rather than sprawl.
- • Define and implement the contribution model and governance for the design system, including versioning, changelogs, intake processes, and quality bars, with automated guardrails to prevent fragmentation.
- • Build and maintain the canonical reference for Kin’s design patterns, replacing disparate tools with a single source of truth accessible to all teams.
- • Advocate for accessibility in all components by embedding automated testing and AI-assisted audits to proactively identify and resolve compliance gaps.
- • Partner across Product, Engineering, and embedded domain designers to make the design system the easiest path to a cohesive, on-brand experience across all customer-facing and internal surfaces.
- • Drive adoption of the design system through influence across a federated, domain-based organization without relying on positional authority.
- • Operate in ambiguity to build structure where none exists, leading 0-to-1 initiatives that scale across internal tools, customer apps, and multi-brand surfaces without fragmentation.
- • Leverage AI tools to accelerate manual tasks, automate documentation, and speed up the design-to-code feedback loop.
- • Ensure new product surfaces inherit consistency by default, eliminating the need for retroactive design rework to meet brand standards.
- • Maintain alignment between engineering and design on a shared token structure with a clear rollout approach for updating shared components without breaking downstream consumers.
- • Document and institutionalize the contribution and governance model so teams know how to request from and extend the system without routing around it.
- • Ensure the design system enables AI and human designers to generate Kin-consistent visual outputs from a unified foundation.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years of significant visual and product design experience with a meaningful focus on design systems work
- • Deep fluency in token architecture (primitive, semantic, component) and mastery of Figma (variables, libraries, modes)
- • Proven track record of taking a design system from audit through architecture to adoption, treating it as a product, not a deliverable
- • Proven ability to leverage AI tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) to automate documentation and accelerate design-to-code workflows
- • Ability to influence without authority across a federated organization
- • Comfort operating in ambiguous, 0-to-1 environments where structure must be built from scratch
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and company equity through Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)
- • Eligibility for annual compensation through the Kin Leadership Incentive Plan
- • 401(k) with company match up to 4% of eligible earnings
- • Multiple medical, dental, and vision plan options
- • Company-funded HSA contributions based on medical plan selection
- • Company-paid life insurance and short-term disability
- • Flexible PTO (most employees take 15–20 days/year) plus 8 company-observed holidays
- • Paid parental leave: up to 14 weeks at 100% pay for birthing parents, 8 weeks at 100% pay for non-birthing parents
- • Access to mental health support and confidential counseling resources
- • Professional development budget for certifications, conferences, and learning
- • Employee referral bonuses
- • Supplemental benefits including long-term disability, critical illness, accident, legal, and pet insurance
