You will be instrumental in empowering creators by providing them with the tools and insights needed for their publishing platforms, fostering economic autonomy and direct audience connections, unmoored from traditional advertising models.
- • As a key member of the Product Analytics team, you will contribute to a small, scrappy, and impactful group embedded directly within the Product organization. This team is dedicated to enhancing our understanding of the product, user base, growth trajectory, and overall market position, enabling data-driven decision-making at all levels.
- • You will take comprehensive ownership of continuously improving our collective understanding of Substack's product performance and user engagement. This involves delving deep into user behavior, identifying key drivers of growth, and monitoring the overall health and trajectory of our platform.
- • Proactively collaborate with Product Managers (PMs) and company leadership to shape both the long-term strategic vision and the immediate tactical execution for your designated product areas. Your insights will directly influence product roadmaps and strategic priorities.
- • Play a crucial role in defining and refining key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics. You will help the team establish clear, measurable goals that align with business objectives and provide a framework for evaluating product success.
- • Regularly communicate your findings and insights through well-crafted, insightful updates to your immediate team and across the wider company. This includes presenting complex data in an accessible and actionable manner to diverse stakeholders.
- • Foster a strong partnership with engineering teams to ensure the integrity and efficiency of our data infrastructure. This involves advocating for and investing in clean, thorough logging practices, robust ETL processes, and improving the overall ergonomics of our data systems for easier access and analysis.

- • Perform deep-dive analyses into user behavior, segmenting users based on various attributes and identifying patterns that inform product development and marketing strategies.
- • Design, execute, and analyze A/B tests and other experiments to validate hypotheses and measure the impact of new features and product changes. Ensure rigorous experimental design and interpretation of results.
- • Contribute to the development of predictive models or forecasts related to user growth, engagement, or revenue, providing foresight into future trends.
- • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, concise, and compelling narratives that drive understanding and action among non-technical audiences.
- • Stay abreast of industry best practices in product analytics, data science, and growth strategies, bringing innovative ideas and methodologies to the team.
- • Champion a data-informed culture throughout the organization, encouraging curiosity and critical thinking around product performance and user insights.
- • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Product Analytics team, helping to prioritize initiatives and shape the team's roadmap.
- • Analyze the competitive landscape and market trends to provide context for Substack's product strategy and identify potential opportunities or threats.
- • Work closely with marketing and growth teams to understand campaign performance and attribute user acquisition and engagement to various channels.
- • Develop a deep understanding of Substack's unique creator ecosystem and the diverse needs of different creator types.
- • Contribute to the development of self-serve analytics tools and resources for product teams, empowering them to explore data independently.
- • Ensure data quality and accuracy by implementing validation checks and working with engineering to resolve any data discrepancies.
- • Participate in product strategy discussions, bringing a data-driven perspective to inform feature prioritization and roadmap planning.
- • Help define and track OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) for product initiatives, ensuring alignment with company-wide goals.
- • Conduct user research in conjunction with qualitative insights to provide a holistic view of user behavior and product perception.
- • Analyze the impact of pricing strategies and subscription models on user behavior and revenue.
- • Develop a strong intuition for product opportunities by combining quantitative analysis with qualitative understanding of user needs and market dynamics.
- • Contribute to the development of a robust data dictionary and documentation for key metrics and analyses.
