Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Lead end-to-end design direction for Workato’s most technically sophisticated product areas, including API management, data orchestration, and MCP, ensuring complex infrastructure capabilities are intuitive for enterprise users.
  • • Stay hands-on with design work by directly tackling complex design problems, setting the quality bar, and modeling excellence for your team of designers.
  • • Own and evolve the design system, enforcing consistency in spacing, typography, copy tone, and interaction patterns while knowing when to extend or hold the line on established standards.
  • • Conduct rigorous design reviews and critiques that elevate team craft, sharpen product quality, and establish shared design standards across the organization.
  • • Partner closely with product managers and engineering leaders to shape product roadmaps—not just execute on defined requirements, but influence what gets built and why.
  • • Represent design in executive reviews and cross-functional strategy sessions, communicating design rationale clearly and persuasively to non-design stakeholders.
  • • Advocate for users and design quality when priorities conflict, making data-informed, conviction-driven decisions and knowing when to push back or adapt.
  • • Collaborate with user researchers to frame key questions, integrate user insights into the design process, and validate design decisions with appropriate rigor.
  • • Thoughtfully incorporate AI-assisted capabilities into products, ensuring automation intelligence enhances usability and delivers genuine value to enterprise users.
  • • Manage, mentor, and grow a small team of designers through clear expectations, regular feedback, and intentional investment in their professional development.
  • • Build a team culture rooted in rigor, low ego, and a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, user-centered design solutions.
  • • Pair designers with projects based on their strengths and growth opportunities, stepping in personally when your seniority and expertise can add maximum leverage.
  • • Navigate ambiguity without freezing, delegate effectively without abdicating ownership, and maintain hands-on involvement without micromanaging.
  • • Demonstrate deep technical fluency by engaging confidently with engineers on implementation tradeoffs involving data transformations, API configurations, schema mapping, and automation logic.
  • • Deliver a portfolio that showcases ownership of complex, end-to-end design problems, particularly in enterprise SaaS, developer tools, or workflow automation domains.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 7+ years of product design experience, with at least 2 years in a formal or informal leadership capacity managing designers or owning major product areas end-to-end
  • • A portfolio demonstrating ownership of complex, end-to-end design problems, preferably in enterprise SaaS, developer tools, workflow automation, or technically complex domains
  • • Deep technical fluency in concepts such as data transformations, API configurations, schema mapping, and automation logic, with ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams
  • • Proven ability to lead and grow designers through substantive feedback, hard conversations, and development support
  • • Proficiency in Figma and strong command of design systems, including when to extend them versus enforce consistency
  • • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment, managing ambiguity without freezing, delegating without abdicating, and staying hands-on without micromanaging

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Flexible, trust-oriented culture that empowers employees to take full ownership of their roles
  • • Emphasis on balancing productivity with self-care
  • • Vibrant and dynamic work environment
  • • Comprehensive benefits package available inside and outside of work
