- • The Product Engineer I is an associate-level role within the product team’s career progression (PE1–PE4), responsible for maintaining Verdant’s product backlog and requirements pipeline, operating with an AI-first mindset to leverage AI tools as primary productivity multipliers.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include maintaining the product backlog with refined, development-ready stories, conducting stakeholder interviews and requirements sessions, authoring user stories and acceptance criteria, querying and interpreting production data with AI assistance, applying AI tools (Claude, Copilot, MCP-connected agents) for requirements documentation and analysis, creating test cases and executing UAT scripts, maintaining product documentation, participating in all sprint ceremonies, building deep domain knowledge in equipment finance, identifying process improvement opportunities, participating in the full software development lifecycle, and interacting with internal and external business users to translate business needs into actionable requirements.
- • The role sits within Axos Financial’s product team, supporting the development and refinement of products in the equipment finance and leasing verticals, with a focus on innovation through AI-enabled workflows and close collaboration with the Director of Product.
- • The individual will develop deep business domain knowledge in equipment finance, gain hands-on experience with AI-augmented product development, strengthen skills in requirements gathering, Agile execution, and data-informed decision-making, and advance along the product engineering career path (PE1–PE4) with opportunities for increased responsibility and impact.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in product ownership, business analysis, QA, or a related field
- • AI-first mindset — demonstrated experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) as a primary productivity tool, not just an occasional aid
- • Data literacy — ability to query and interpret data to answer business questions and validate assumptions (SQL fluency not required; AI-assisted querying is expected)
- • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodology and sprint-based delivery
- • Strong written and verbal communication skills
- • Intellectual curiosity and a strong desire to learn the business domain
