- • As a Product Engineer (Java) Lead Consultant at Allstate, you will design, build, and operate reliable backend services using modern engineering practices, contributing to systems that protect families and their belongings from life’s uncertainties while advancing innovation in pricing, telematics, and identity protection.
- • Day to day, you will design and develop Java-based backend services using Spring Boot, build and integrate API-driven service-to-service communication (both synchronous and asynchronous), design and consume RESTful and event-based interfaces, write clean and testable code, troubleshoot issues across service boundaries, work with relational databases via service interfaces, contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deploy and operate services in Kubernetes, support lower and production environments, improve observability and resiliency, participate in frontend tasks using React when needed, engage in standups, planning, retrospectives, and design discussions, communicate technical concepts clearly, ask clarifying questions, collaborate through code reviews and pairing, and explore AI-enabled systems and emerging technologies like agentic workflows and AI-assisted tooling.
- • You will join a team at Allstate, a company with over 90 years of innovation in protecting customers, known for leadership in seat belt advocacy, air bags, graduated driving laws, pricing sophistication, telematics, and device and identity protection, where engineers are encouraged to challenge the status quo and shape the future of protection.
- • In this role, you can deepen your expertise in backend engineering, Java, Spring Boot, API design, containerization, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability; gain experience with AI-assisted tooling and modern AI patterns; strengthen collaboration and communication skills in product-driven teams; and grow into a trusted technical contributor who drives reliable, scalable, and maintainable systems.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5 years or more of professional experience building backend systems using Java
- • Experience with Spring Boot or similar Java frameworks
- • Knowledge of automated testing, CI/CD practices, and version control
- • Familiarity with containerized application deployment
- • Understanding of relational databases and SQL
- • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-based environment
- • Ability to communicate technical information clearly in meetings, documentation, and code reviews
