📋 Description

• • Own the product vision for Zed, the next-generation code editor engineered from scratch in Rust to be fast, elegant, and collaborative. You will translate ambitious technical possibilities into a clear, user-centric roadmap that delights developers worldwide.
• • Partner daily with a world-class team of Rust engineers and designers to curate the roadmap, structure priorities, and deliver meaningful results. Your influence will span everything from low-level performance optimizations to high-level UX polish that makes coding feel magical.
• • Define and drive product strategy using a potent mix of data, user feedback, and GitHub issues. You will synthesize quantitative insights from Hex and Amplitude with qualitative stories from our open-source community to ensure every sprint moves the needle on deep user engagement.
• • Pair-program with engineering to evaluate technical tradeoffs, manage capacity, and align roadmaps with realistic timelines. You will become fluent in distributed systems, async Rust patterns, and GPU-accelerated rendering so you can ask the right questions and make informed bets.
• • Prioritize and sequence work to maximize developer impact, balancing long-term architectural vision with near-term execution. You will decide when to ship a quick win versus when to invest in foundational improvements that unlock future velocity.
• • Establish lightweight yet rigorous frameworks for scoping, planning, and tracking projects. You will introduce just enough process to keep a fast-moving team focused without slowing anyone down.
• • Gather continuous feedback from power users, enterprise teams, and internal stakeholders to refine priorities and inform product direction. You will run beta cohorts, moderate Discord threads, and turn raw sentiment into actionable insights.
• • Spend hands-on time in Hex and Amplitude to surface growth levers and retention drivers. You will own the metrics that matter—daily active developers, median session length, plugin adoption—and design experiments that move them.
• • Provide crisp, concise communication and documentation that aligns engineering, design, and leadership on objectives and outcomes. You will write RFCs, release notes, and internal blog posts that turn complex technical discussions into shared understanding.
• • Champion a culture of shipping. You will celebrate incremental releases, run retros that actually change behavior, and ensure every feature lands with measurable impact and delightful polish.
