Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Product Research Specialist at Zello Inc., you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s hardware strategy by identifying and evaluating the wired and Bluetooth headsets most trusted by frontline workers in Retail and Hospitality environments. Your research will directly inform vendor selection and product integration decisions, ensuring Zello’s push-to-talk technology is paired with reliable, high-performance accessories that enhance communication for desk-less workers across critical industries.
- • You will conduct comprehensive desk research to catalog leading headset models, analyzing customer reviews, industry forums, trade publications, and community discussions to understand user sentiment, pricing, availability, and technical specifications. This includes documenting build quality, connectivity type, durability, comfort, and frequency of positive mentions to build a robust, evidence-based foundation for evaluation.
- • You will execute in-person field research across top Austin-area Retail and Hospitality locations, observing real-world headset usage, interviewing frontline staff and managers about their experiences, and capturing insights that cannot be gathered through remote research alone—such as wear-and-tear patterns, comfort during long shifts, and compatibility with existing workflows.
- • You will design and maintain a structured headset database using spreadsheets and research tools, organizing evaluation criteria, tracking key attributes, and prioritizing candidates based on popularity, quality signals, and relevance to Zello’s target environments, ensuring data is clear, actionable, and ready for cross-functional review.
- • You will source, purchase, and coordinate internal hands-on testing of top-ranked headsets, conducting your own evaluations of call clarity, comfort, build quality, and ease of use, then consolidating feedback from team members into structured summaries that support vendor shortlisting decisions.
- • You will synthesize research findings and test results into clear, concise reports and recommendations that guide vendor outreach, helping to narrow the field to partners meeting Zello’s quality bar and documenting selection criteria for future partnership evaluation.
- • You will gain end-to-end product research experience with tangible impact—from initial market scanning to final vendor shortlist—developing skills in competitive analysis, field observation, data synthesis, and stakeholder communication while contributing directly to Zello’s mission of empowering frontline workers.
- • You will work within a collaborative, outcome-oriented culture where ownership is encouraged, curiosity is rewarded, and your contributions are valued regardless of seniority—supported by a team that prioritizes real user needs over assumptions and celebrates meaningful impact over mere effort.
🎯 Requirements
- • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant academic program such as Product Design, Engineering, Technology Management (Business School), or a closely related field.
- • Naturally curious, detail-oriented, and organized—able to structure complex research into clear, followable documentation and work independently with initiative.
- • Comfortable using spreadsheets, research tools, and AI-assisted platforms to efficiently gather, organize, and analyze data.
- • Possesses reliable personal transportation to travel to Austin-area Retail and Hospitality locations for in-person field visits.
- • Strong communicator capable of translating complex technical and user feedback into simple, actionable summaries for cross-functional teams.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive pay and equity with significant upside, aligning your success with Zello’s long-term growth.
- • Intentional benefits design promoting healthy work-life balance, including flexible schedules and generous time off.
- • Unique sabbatical program after every five years of service to pursue personal passions and recharge.
- • Access to workplace amenities such as a ping-pong table and free snacks in the break room, fostering a fun and engaging office culture.
- • Commitment to equal employment opportunity and inclusion, with a workplace free from discrimination or harassment based on any protected characteristic.
